Chilling- where on the PnL did you see them make the profit that you state were reinvested? I can only see zero profits.
Hutters- what's Ocados market share? Last time I saw it was only 3.5%. I doubt its competitors are worried about Ocados presence at the moment. They need to increase this to stand a chance.
The lack of profit and measly market share growth are the reasons why this has fallen 30%+.
Neil - the concept of using technology to become more efficient is a good idea, but I cannot accept not gaining a profit in 21 years of trading.
Like you've eluded to, many supermarkets have used technology (self service checkouts for example) to increase efficiency whilst making profits. I do wonder if Ocados technology is efficient enough to turn truly make its customers more efficient. Maybe they are just trying to reinvent the wheel. Time will tell.
It's all well and good trying to convince ourselves that Sara is a crook and everyone should vote yes out of pure common sense, but we need to be smarter about how try and influence the customers.
My suggestion is to use credible sources like the courts and PwC in their assessment (I.e. independent third parties) and detail what they have said about the outcome. I suggest also stating that Sara will profit from insolvency.
The one thing people need to learn from Brexit is that calling people thick isnt going to change their mind.
If people are willing to vote against the SOA despite potentially being better off then you need to understand why. There is always a better reason why than they are thick.
OWLS, I suggest you try and understand the nuance I'm putting on luxury. I wouldn't usually say picking up the kids is a luxury either but I know a lot of parents looking forward to getting out the house and more so, enjoying the fact that kids are at school now.
It's in this context that physical stores will stay and although online will increase, it wont increase by a much as everyone hopes for here.
The opinion, foolishly, stated that no-one enjoyed going to the supermarket and therefore everyone would choose Ocado for home deliveries.
In fact, as lockdown has progressed people are finding reasons to get out the house to "pick up the kids from school or pop to the supermarket". People want normality and they realise that previous "chores" were in fact a luxury. That's why physical stores are here to stay.
Thaw, you are not incorrect in your assessment of the Guardian biasedness. But we are biased too and we want to give as little as possible so we can make more money from our investment.
Let's be clear, we are not making more profits for the purpose of increasing redress but to line our own pockets. Its disingenuous to make it sound otherwise.
