As with any form of investing, there are just too many variables to arrive at a successful investing formula. There is the operations of the business it’s self, then the dynamics of the industry, then the global economy, then the daily decisions of the management of the company, irrational market sentiment etc, all at play. It’s too complicated. All you can go off is generalities. Generally if a company has a strong balance sheet, it can survive hard times, generally if a company has a moat (competitive advantage) it will generate strong earnings, generally if management are honest, competent people, the company will do well etc etc
