In the short term, tariffs would cause significant damage in usa, and raise costs for U.S. refineries, create uncertainty for global supply chains and result in increased prices for oil consumers. energy projects would be delayed due to the increased cost of important production materials not available in the America...
Then once you put such a frame of work that contravenes the free trade policy ..it would be very difficult to untangle and takes years to undo the damage.
The solution of putting tariffs to protect their shale industries would be far worse than resolving the issue of unfairness the usa is in at present.......
basically the usa wants their cake and eat it too!

The current SP is a good opportunity in buying the stock in a mid or long-term.
The company returns Profits at high margins.
sound financial situation and has significant cash for investment.
Gkp is most attractive with regard to earnings multiple-based valuation.
For investors in search of a high dividend share.
Analysts recommend buying gkp. Latest Peel Hunt 3/4/2020 ...SP target 287 p
The average target price set by all analysts covering the stock is well above current prices .

Weak points after the recent RNS update......(left shareholders in a bit of limbo )..imv
Current poor visibility
Lower growth prospects
The lower sales outlook for the group
forecast a decline in activity .
sales expectations have been lowered
Bearish EPS expectations by analysts
Predictions of worse results for the company against their predictions a year ago.

We need a new RNS from the company soon to support the SP..and refuting the poor outlook circulating with shorters in the field hammering the SP..
but another scenario is that some one holding the SP down to throw a low ball with a bargain bid offer!?
GKP at current SP with RSI standing at 32 is reaching the point for a reversal upwards
Holding strong here in spite of poor current sentiment and momentum but great value and quality of a stock among other oilers...
