Make work schemes16 Feb 2025 10:22
Loukos was always a make work scheme for Wallace, Raillard and the rest. Why do I say that? Look at the timing. They knew a farm down was coming and that meant losing operatorship. Wallace realised that his team would have to be down-sized. The operator would have a country office. Raillard saw his expat liefstyle coming to an end. Loukos offered a way out. It was an SDX cast-off and from the get go looked awful. But Wallace talked it up, generated a few of leads, talked about low cost wells, rapid monetization, a deal with Vitol. Two dusters later, the dream was over. And yet Wallace and Raillard are still on seat trousering large sums.
Not a problem. The dynamic duo are getting ready to re-launch Anchois. Enog didn't know what they were doing. The project can be right-sized. Lessons have been learned. The fundementals are still there. Blah blah blah. Another make work scheme to keep them in the lifestyle they have come to expect. Except nobody believes em any more. Not even Malcy and his pal at the Investors Chronicle. And I very much doubt that ONHYM and their bosses in the government have much faith in Wallace and Raillard either. 6 years of blah blah blah and nothing to show for it. Gas production at least five years away. But let's be honest...Morocco will never see a fart of gas with Chariot at the helm. Imagine yourself in the government. You've drunk the kool aid and belive you have a world class gas asset 40km offshore. The license is months away from having to be renewed. What would you do? Take back the license and look for serious player to award it to? And if you find one, you'd be glad to bid farewell to Wallace and Raillard. I think that might well happen.
Never fear...your directors have got a back-up plan. Namibia. But are the Namibians so stupid as to give a license to Chariot. Chariot could not afford the signing on fee. The likes of Shell and Total are struggling with Namibia in spite of some biggish finds. Could Wallace find the black stuff down there? Could JMW raise the money to fund a mega project? Could Raillard deliver the sales agreements? You better hope they dont get a license. Coz if they do, they will simply fritter away more shareholder money.
Bottom line...the gas pillar has crumbled and has no value at all. I believe AP is resigned to that. If he can get a few bob for the pillar, he'll take it. He is now laser focussed on the cuddly green pillars...just as the rest of the world is questioning the sanity of all that. More coming up on green hydrogen in Mauritania and solar panel rental in South Africa.
