Well as you keep telling everyone you are very well of, with a portfolio of shares valued at £xx,xxx,xxx, plus an indexed link final salary company pension from HSBC which you allude to being a substantial amount, plus you get the basic State Pension, so it is easy for you to make that statement with no empathy whatsoever for the millions of pensioners in this country who live on the basic state pension only, with no company pension, no savings, no share portfolios, having to make the choice every week between eating or keeping warm! Oil prices hit $139 a barrel this month, although the international benchmark Brent crude was trading 1.2 per cent higher at $107.93 a barrel in New York last night.

The risk of a supply crunch could be reduced, however, if governments and citizens across advanced economies adopt a package of emergency measures that would cut global oil demand by 2.7 million barrels per day within four months. “Oil markets are in an emergency situation. And not only that, it may get worse,” Fatih Birol, the IEA’s executive director, said. “As a result of Russia’s appalling aggression against Ukraine, the world may well be facing its biggest oil-supply shock in decades with huge implications for our economies and societies.”

Sunak under pressure on triple lock decision – calls to ‘reconsider’ at Spring Statement.

The Chancellor Rishi Sunak is set to make his Spring Statement next week, and speculation is rife as to what will be announced. The controversial decision to suspend the state pension triple lock is still at the forefront of many people’s minds.

The subsequent 3.1 percent increase reflects the rate of inflation as of September last year.

But since the lower increase was confirmed, inflation has risen higher and higher, up to a 30-year high of 5.5 percent.

This means inflation is currently outpacing the state pension increase pensioners are set to receive. They are therefore still losing money in real terms.

From April, three million barrels per day of Russian oil production could be shut in as sanctions take hold and buyers shun exports.

That’s according to the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) latest oil market report, which added that the prospect of large-scale disruptions to Russian oil production is threatening to create a global oil supply shock.

“The implications of a potential loss of Russian oil exports to global markets cannot be understated,” the IEA report said.

“Russia is the world’s largest oil exporter, shipping eight million barrels per day of crude and refined oil products to customers across the globe. Unprecedented sanctions imposed on Russia to date exclude energy trade for the most part, but major oil companies, trading houses, shipping firms and banks have backed away from doing business with the country,” the report added.

“For now, we see the potential for a shut-in of three million barrels per day of Russian oil supply starting from April, but losses could increase should restrictions or public condemnation escalate,” the report continued.

I think the SP will struggle to get much over 50p based solely on amount of full year ordinary dividend. The Full Year dividend for 2021 was 2p, which gives a dividend yield of 4% at a SP of 50p. At 55p SP the dividend yield would be 3.6%, and SP at 60p would give a dividend yield of 3.3%. When you can get double that yield easily elsewhere will be a drag on SP. The SP did get above 55p in January, but that was before the Final Results, and dividend amount was unknown, and a lot of investors were anticipating a special dividend in addition to ordinary dividend to be announced at Final Results. Now investors know there will be no special dividend and full year ordinary dividend was only 2p, this will be a drag on SP. I personally think it will stay around 50p level for some time now until the dividend level increases raising the prospective yield.

Morning Livestock
Interesting investors on Wall Street seem to have been positive on FED raising interest rates which is evidenced by market reaction on Wall Street and US Bank Shares all having good gains, yet here in the UK, the Market also reacted positively to rise in rates here in UK yet all UK Banks SP goes down.

FTSE Futures varying between +20 pts on IG.COM, and -25 pts on liveindex.org, so anyone's guess what opening price will be today?

I guess your post is directed at my post at 08:22 where I said after 14 trading days. I am simply detailing the amount of trading days since the buyback started, which is 14 days, which includes the 14th March which is the one day that no shares were bought back. In my opinion a buyback programme runs from the first day the shares are bought back to the last day the shares are bought back irrespective of any days that shares are not purchased. Unless of course the buyback programme is suspended.
