Progressive dividend policy is defined as:
"A progressive dividend policy is one where the dividend is expected to rise at least in line with increases in earnings per share. However, if earnings per share falls, the dividend will not be reduced."
So according to that, dividend increases should be a MINIMUM of any corresponding increase in EPS, but could be more. If the EPS falls, the dividend will not fall........so to me that reads it could potentially be raised in those circumstances ? How will the BOD play that this year given that there will be a fall in EPS this year; last year actual FY EPS was 7.5p, but that was boosted by release of money that had been set aside for bad loan provision, and consensus for this year is 6p.

Well their forward looking forecasts for inflation was nowhere near accurate so is there any reason we should think this will be.

That is only the analysts estimate 2.33p for FY 2022 dividend, but if that was accurate the interim would be 1/3 of that which comes in at 0.777p.

Further to my post this morning at 09:09, Lloyds have now issued the Q2 Half Year Analysts Consensus - pre report. Slight revise down for FY dividend this year to 2.33p (Q1 was 2.34p) but then increasing estimates for dividend years 2024 and 2025. They have a slight revise down for EPS going forward from Q1 Consensus.

The Q2 Analysts Consensus - pre report has not been issued yet; the corresponding report for last year was issued on 30th June. In a reply I got to an email I sent to Lloyds Investors asking when it is likely to be published, they said that it was currently being updated for revised consensus from Analysts, but hoped to have it released this week. It will be interesting to see if the estimates from Q1 Consensus Report issued on 7th April for EPS and Dividends are revised down or up? Will having to double the capital buffer by another £11 billion result in lowering the previous estimates? Will increasing interest rates and NIM's increase the previous estimates? Any thoughts?

Levels of debt distress won’t reach 2008 peak under forecasts.
Analysis suggests BOE can raise rates to tackle inflation.

UK mortgage borrowers will avoid debt distress unless interest rates rise to 5% or higher, according to the Bank of England.

Speaking to the media after the publication of the twice-yearly Financial Stability Report, BOE Deputy Governor Jon Cunliffe said that rates have to rise between 2 and 5 percentage points above market expectations for debt servicing costs to reach levels seen in the financial crisis.

Markets currently forecast UK rates to peak at around 3%. “There is more resilience in the system,” said BOE Governor Andrew Bailey.

The remarks suggest the BOE will not feel constrained by fears about housing market strain or surging mortgage defaults as it raises rates to tame inflation, which is currently almost five times above the 2% target.

The UK mortgage market has changed significantly since the financial crisis in 2008, when property prices crashed almost 20% and defaults spiked before the BOE slashed rates almost to zero.

Four-in-five borrowers are now on fixed rates, compared with 55% five years ago, and half of all mortgages are fixed for two to five years, the BOE said.

It has been reported this morning that the 1922 Conservative Back Bench Committee now favours sending a “delegation” of MPs to Boris Johnson to tell the PM that it is time for him to resign.

The news come from James Forsyth, the political editor of The Spectator, who says that he has been told that by a senior figure on the 1922 Committee

Chris Skidmore, the former universities minister, has written an open letter to Sir Graham Brady, chair of the Conservative 1922 Committee, saying he no longer has confidence in Boris Johnson as Tory leader.

There has been five more resignations this morning, the latest in the last few minutes being the economic secretary to the Treasury John Glen who said that he had a “complete lack of confidence” in Boris Johnson’s leadership.

16 Tory MPs have now resigned from Boris Johnson’s cabinet in less than 24 hours.
