RE: Trump tariffs2 Dec 2019 16:39
Excellent read and uncomfortable in places as China could start holding many countries under ransom including SA and this is where corruption wins. Hopefully BMN is the objection to the rule with much of the ownership outside of China's hands.
It would obviously take a multi-billion takeover otherwise to change things in a few years time when the story is close to completion. I would prefer a US or multi-national company doing this as spreading the wealth/metals for all is best. Sharing is caring!
'China is also expanding its dominant market position in vanadium and graphite, securing additional supplies and building integrated supply chains. Vanadium is a transition metal that is used in flow batteries, superconducting magnets, and high-strength alloys for jet engines and high-speed aircraft. Chinese firms already produce 56 percent of the world’s vanadium domestically, and China is home to 48 percent of the world’s reserves.15 Now, they are targeting South Africa - ranked third in vanadium production and reserves behind China and Russia16 - and tapping into local companies’ plans to develop an integrated platform to produce vanadium redox flow batteries for distributed energy across South Africa.17 The vanadium resources will also flow toward China, feeding its battery industry and the National Development and Reform Commission’s planned rollout of 100-megawatt stationary energy storage stations to manage its wind and solar energy.'
