PS my "nothing to do with costain" comment was more aimed at the "better make sure we are well insured"....

As I said, roads have been built to spec.. Spec can change but Costain do not dictate the national motorway road spec.

In general terms though around SMA, the tabloids love a headline figure x numbers killed on smart motorways etc, and its probably undoubtedly more than if there were hard shoulders but there is a big but here, and its a massive one...

Ministers will not be on TV talking about it as it will be deemed to complex for joe public - and it probably is...

BUT

If motorways are moving more efficiently, it raises GDP, more miles done per car at higher average speed is good for GDP.
More constant speed is better for air pollution - less stopping and starting
More efficient use of available transport capacity

So economic benefits = more tax dollars
Less pollution = health benefits around air quality - more difficult to quantify but almost certainly lives will be saved and probably more than lost from being hit by cars
Better efficiency on roads - again - greater economic benefit

Economic benefit = more tax and more spend - which politicians love

So are these "extra deaths" ultimately worth it for the benefits they are getting - I dont know but I would suggest in the "big picture" they are as thats why they are doing it...

Running a country is just one huge cost benefit analysis, pain for some but greater benefits for larger numbers = good

And one of the best things my dad taught me when you get these idiots who basically think some things are "just good" and somethings are "bad" was that everything has a cost - everything (think the green energy brigade - offshore wind - massive amounts of contrete and steel needed which are produced with huge environmental impact - but they just focus on the energy at the end which is "clean" - madness) ... And he said just keep telling yourself son, if you want an omelette you have to break the egg.

There will be a huge building drive across all sectors as soon as the govt thinks its time to push the button, the global economy needs a huge shove and I mean huge, and govts translate huge shove to spend on infrastructure. That could be green, power, SMA, roads in general, i dont know. But the economics and bang for buck on infrastructure spend are incredibly strong in terms of getting money pumping through the economy. There will be so much work to go around it wont matter if one door shuts as so many others will open. This is going to be a spending bonanza..... You just watch.

They were built to spec. If they need modifying it’s the govts prerogative. Bottom line is they set the rules and the motorways serfs built to meet them. Nothing to do with costain.

Imo. Still a ridiculously low price for these assets and earnings. Consolidation done now and time to break new ground.

There is less competition in the sector now for sure.

Jobs cannot be taken on wafer thin margins, the whole industry was brought close to collapse by this practice, I think the govt will find margins will start improving, and it should want them to because companies need better margins to invest etc. Free lunch era is gone.

Looking at Costain at the moment, very nice results here, expecting a read across to the other sector bargains.... This area has deffo been left behind in the rally.

Added a few more... I think the 60p consolidation is pretty much done.

Some nice results out of KIER today, which should read across to here. Also keep your eye on COSTAIN (COST) chaps, another great recovery play.

Nice chunky move coming after some rock solid consolidation.

I think this will be a strong and steady grind higher, many probably missed yesterdays news snippet, we are slight insiders here. This was crazy cheap before and thats even more true now we know the turnaround is well underway and has excellent traction. These will be 20p before we know it IMO, not much stock left around these levels and a quick jump to 15p is coming IMO before heading back over 20.

PS added another 15,000 today.

A lot less people will go on holiday this year, a lot of investing in ones own property, less competition, lower costs, a more efficient digital network, these guys will be big winners as the vaccine rolls out and the macro situation normalises. Cannot believe how well they have managed to trade in Q4!

Yes following the recapitalisation this is in a very very good position, and less competition in general. Deffo a time to be buying and accumulating at these bargain basement levels.
