As long as VLS remains on that Zero Jet panel as an active member, then I am not so worry about all that tender/competition. When you spend Gov funds you have to follow rules including fair market competition etc. No escape from that. Even if VLS would have technology already applied and producing fuel, the panel still would have to follow the same path.
From my understanding VLS has proven technology and Know-How. What VLS do not have is sufficient funding to build the plant and start production. That can be sorted with the fund everyone else would apply for as well. Healthy competition will also ensure that VLS stops fluffing around and get their heads into making thing real.
As for Shell? I bet they came, took Know-How and took off. They don't need Jet Zero or VLS. They have all they need to continue being one of the biggest suppliers of fuel no matter what - money, supplies, best resources to replicate technology, change it slightly it and patent it as their own.
I am glad that VLS got into a cooperation with Japan. This is really they gate to start selling their know-how and making money.
Hence, I am going to keep an eye on this little business and keep my shares. Who knows where this will lead us :-)
I just find it odd that there is now a Green Skies competition to turn materials such as everyday waste into sustainable aviation fuel, when that is exactly what VLS technology already claims to do and has been promoting since their "planning permission" hyped update last year and should be well beyond the "enter a competition" stage but apparently in the costing and investment stage? But not any updates on costing or investment.
