The border cities Kharkiv & Mariupol were the most heavily defended. Now Russia has captured Mykolaiv the game is already won, it just needs to play out. Once they push north out of Mykolaiv to Kropyvnytskyi it cuts off supply routes to any Ukrainian forces in the East. Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia and Poltava will fall without much fighting.

Think it's more to do with 14,000 deaths in the Donbass region at the hands of the Ukrainian government and the fact Ukraine has a huge Ultra nationalist problem (Azov Battalion/C14) that seems to be embraced by a government who speak openly about joining nato and acquiring nukes. The US tries to control Ukraine as Ukraine has Gas pipelines running East to West. If US disrupt the flow then Euros have to import expensive LNG from US. Also appears to be a hotbed for IMF/World bank loans while people like Hunter Biden sit on the board of Barisma for some reason. Whole place was a US sponsored corrupt s***show. There's no ceasefire on the horizon. Give it a few weeks. Russia will take everything East of Khmelnytskyi. Ukraine will be demilitarized and divided. Still need to starve out the troops in Kiev and Odessa.
