Quick thought: I rather they use the cash to invest in interesting companies that can multiply that in the future.
The benefits for us should they succeed are much bigger than repurchasing a few shares. This is not giving any dividends, it will make no difference to us small shareholders at all. It will be forgotten soon and we will have 3mio less to invest in other adventures, or increase our position in selected ones within the portfolio.
What is the stake we have in this? I must admit I am not keen on plant based meat alternatives on this portfolio. I rather they stick to cultivated protein, fats and precision fermentation. Biology based companies, not mix and match ingredients faking products.
But if it makes money and we can benefit... ok...
Thanks Mike and Sam,
I bought at the beginning of the year, so I'm in quite a loss at the moment, but for what I can understand through news and reading of their documents (and your comments) is a company that is well run. And the case is the same now as it was at the beginning of the year. Not just the company, but the whole of sea freight, it is going to be needed yes or yes. Making boats is going to get more and more expensive, so if you have them now you are in a win. I see them appreciating significantly thanks to inflation (and yes, debt will be a burden, but even more so for those who need to buy from new)
So I keep adding when I can. It makes me feel good to think I own a tiny part of a ship!
And it seems directors are doing too..
After more than a year I have started to buy again (modestly compared to my original investments), and will do so a little more every month from now on.
Again as I told the forum before, 50% down, but not panicking.
I'm with you BMB5DJO. I am seriously underwater with ANIC, but I like the companies and the recent announcements for many of them. When I started buying in 2021 I though this was a 10 years investment, and although the deep red makes me very uncomfortable, the case and the time horizon stands for me.
I found this in linked in: https://www.forbes.com/sites/jeffkart/2023/07/08/lab-grown-cotton-enters-the-market-with-galy-suzuran-partnership/?sh=72f95aef1c9f
I cant remember how much do we have invested in Galy, and it is hardly talked about in any presentations, but hey, it sounds very interesting.
Hi Chris (an others that attended the call), I could not attend the Zoom.
May you be able to do a little summary if there is anything new we did not know already?
I'm really curious to see if there are any news on portfolio evolution.
Well, it was not one but two companies that got full approval Good Food also got it yesterday.
That is two companies in the USA. A pity none of them are part of our portfolio.
Will we see Bluenalu soon as well? I certainly hope so.
What is interesting is how behind the EU and UK appear to be on this.
Here the link to upside food website itself:

Indeed most of us bought into ANIC as it was the only vehicle to get early into the theme. Unless you wanted to buy a lot of SMT for their % of Upside Foods!
These are huge news, huge for the future, it is historic.
I am not very excited about this investment to be honest. I do not know how it fits with ANIC original purpose.
I would like to stick to precision fermentation, cultivated protein and the pick and shovels to prop the industry.
Perhaps I am missing something, but i don't know how this relates to the above.

This is so interesting to read!

I have seen this reported by many sites and people in linked in.
It sounds quite exciting and they sound very sure of their ability to produce "hundreds of thousands" of burgers soon.
Have a nice weekend all.
Scaling will be a big unknown. But if they can pilot produce and successfully demonstrate technical capability, they will quickly become a target for one of the 3 big Petfood companies.
Precision fermentation aside, I think Petfood is the easiest and closest opportunity to materialize in this space.
