I think the US have learnt from their mistakes.
The MNR are untrustworthy (say one thing while doing another) and in times past the MNR have happily deprived the KRG of funds and only then did the KRG react to find another route for oil payments (I know there’s corruption from both sides).
Remember Maliki, he was firmly aligned with Iran and was the thorn in the side of any resolution, I have no doubt on the instruction of Iran.
While the KRG were being deprived of funds, ISIS arrived on the seen….. If it wasn’t for the US suppling the Kurdish army with up to date military hardware the MNR would have happily watched ISIS decimate the Kurdish people…. Didn’t the mighty IRAQI Forces surrender their arms/armour vehicles and flee ISIS, leaving ISIS with a nice cachet of weaponry which they quickly directed towards the Kurdish army. That was too obvious for me.
Who was funding ISIS and I don’t believe we have seen any real retribution handed out as yet, as we would have read about it. Last year there was that Iranian general that was taken out by a guided missile. That should be a nice little warning to the MNR Iranian sympathisers.
In all the years I’ve been with GKP, I can’t recall an MNR/KRG delegation visiting Washington, to resolve the outstanding issue. Agree with it or not the current US government is very aggressive at the moment. The US election is 8 weeks away. With this in mind this US government would have given them an ultimatum. Make it happen MNR or select which card you want your face on in the new Iraqi deck of card. This time it will be a canaster deck with 108 cards.
Concerning China, I believe the US drop ball and are now playing catch up. Cancelling contracts one after the other, the latest was some huge Chinese electronic chip maker and this is just the beginning. So you can rule out a ‘CHINESETAKEAWAY’. The US and EURO are bringing things back in house, for security and to be ‘self-reliant’. This will require a huge amount of spending and fuel (oil) to make it happen. To build an electric car or build a wind turbine you can’t make these things with electric you still need oil.
Interesting as Israel and the Saudis are now starting to build bridges which I believe is part of a bigger picture in the region.
I’m not a war monger but forces seem to be aligning.
