My "immediate" family left England in the 1770s. We fought for the right to butcher the English version of the English language (among other things)...and we won that fight.

My father did return to our family's homeland for a few years in the 1940s. But he left in 1945, after bombing the hell out of the Krauts.

BTW: our much celebrated "ignorance" is "due to" a lack of English teachers.

I prefer to chalk it up to American efficiency, not ignorance due to a lack of English teachers from England.

I am known to be a bit of a character...to put it mildly.

No, no, nothing derogatory. When I first started posting here, back in 2009, I was schooled by a bunch of frequent blinkx posters (not much going on with the stock, so we took a lot of liberties with off-topic postings....many references to Hendrick's Gin, at all hours of the day). I was schooled on many topics having to do with British / English / London "culture".

How funny....you guys call it "possessive singular", and we call it "singular possessive" (or "plural possessive").

I well realize who invented the language. We just made it a bit more efficient, getting rid of a bunch of unnecessary vowels, and in a few cases consonants. A good example of an extra consonant is one which describes our village idiot. In USA English, that would be a$$, rather than "ar$$.

(Also, "center"...huh? Where did you guys come up with "centre"? I think that would be pronounced something like sen-tree over here.)

I hope, when I wake for my late night time relief, I see another day like today....up, even modestly. That always makes the rest of my sleep more peaceful.
