Looking good value, at just about it's lowest SP. Will keep a close eye intending to profit from ex-div next week, .. again.

Well, decided to sell up at 316 taking the profit from 290p.
Of course the SP could go up or down from here but we do know the SP will gap down tomorrow morning.
I'll look for another entry below 300, otherwise I'll be invested elsewhere.

It baffles me. Perhaps those buyback companies have bonuses tied to EPS or share price, maybe they spin a yarn to their shareholders who let them get away with on the grounds of growth and their SP increasing, and so it spreads company to company, perhaps "we can announce a buyback, issue some shares to each other, sell them and get away with it on the grounds its a good thing for shareholders".
Imagine a world where BOD bonuses where based on overall levels of NAV, turnover, overall profit, or the debt to income ratio instead ? Over the years BOD's have changed their bonus structure to suit themselves and made sure the shareholders cannot do anything substantial about it. Part of our job is to select the ones that will still provide a proper return to us shareholders after they've greased their palms and snouted in their troughs. Just IMO.

Sure they can raise finance, there would be no end of takers currently as Looney is purposely keeping the share price low due to his ineptitude at dealing with shareholder value from pre-pandemic levels and proving BP's ability to waste billions on buybacks, providing liquidity for sellers instead of dealing with their debts, paying proper dividend levels to their share holders or expanding the company by buying into private or listed profitable green energy businesses.

The happy duck brigade say no to jobs, no to local income, and essentially no to the money needed to return the gold mine to farmland. In the time they've been fighting this, under Roland's Galantas the LOM could have been reached and their farmland, foxes, rabbits, pasture, ponds and happy ducks returned already.

Strong support is at 1440 then 1382/1400.
I'll definitely consider buying if this trend towards the low 1400s continues.

PAF would still be on track to clear it's debts, then make over $100m dollars in profits and pay us a reserved $40m in dividends, 1.5p a share.
We have to hope the political situation stabilises somewhat and suggestions of grabs or higher taxations remain as no-chancers.

This is tackled in the Q&A at the end of the transcript, link in my post below.
Essentially there is the hint that to avoid the taxation on profits, additional CAPEX spending might be done so keeping the value within the company, meaning less in dividends but arguable more jam tomorrow and I would imagine also less debt. However the companies need to wait and see what the tax will actually be.
The question of how the the coal split off will happen shares-wise is evaded, but I'm not sure the reasoning behind giving us shares in the coal business that cannot be easily traded by most EVR holders, just list it on the LSE as well IMO.
"So the dividend policy, which we have stated that EVRAZ guarantees a minimum payment of $150 million every six months. But the Board has an opportunity to pay larger amounts and pay it more often as we did this year, for example, if we have good financial results."

It's interesting as a strategy with a buyback also going on.
One would think DLG would be mopping up a load of sales on ex-div day but in April there was more profit to be had than the dividend by selling right before ex-div and waiting 3 weeks.
It worked for me last time here, but I also tried with POLY, a miner, and missed out greatly as the share price recovered more than the ex-div drop on ex-div day itself, ending positive for the day.

Decided to buy back in, increased my holding by a handful of shares, they all count. A 1% increase in a day is good trading but always easier to hold and be doing something else.

Taken the risk and sold a chunk at 1637 to buy back at a lower price.
Worst case I'll add to my various holdings going ex-div on the 12th.

Rumour and News of Elliot must be spreading, now 1630p, before USA opens.
There must be a short term trade in such a quick rise, but don't want to mess up leaving a smaller holding than mine currently.

IMO 1700 is not unreasonable considering how high the SP reached in Feb 2020.

Elsewhere the holding bought into GSK has so far only provided uplift and a jolt to the BOD there to pull up their socks, which arguable was well needed over there, but this is a profit play here and worth holding to see the extra light now being shone on SSE.
This is a long term dividend and growth investment for me, with intentions to hold and see the benefit of projects like Dogger Bank, as long as they hold off government medalling.

IMO We'll see lower than 16p (If so then I hope it will be after this week which has quite a few ex-div dates for my portfolio).

Still digesting the conference call but the instant question that springs to mind is how will they value the coal business as a proportion of the whole, considering steel prices are on a roll compared to coal and split the debt, and what if people wanted to keep their shares/sell later/buy more ? Rosneft can be traded here, so why not the new coal shares ?
Any thoughts out there.

Is this the base of the ex-div drop ?
I sold before ex-div taking profits, but that only totalled about 6%, less than the div, so now quite tempted by any prices under 400p to reinvest and sit sight. Chart shows the price could dip all the way to 300p. All in slow motion.
Hi Banner76. Apart from going against the grain, in what way do you see a problem with the CEO/CFO ? Is there evidence of him being self-serving ?
Any long term holders care to comment on the move to the wild west of AIM ?

Yeah.. Who on Earth would want the chance of 8% compounded growth each year.
IMO Dividends are great. Spend them, reinvest them, but following the US growth style of share where P/E ratios go to the moon will only lead to bust, especially if inflation bites, which our market hasn't seen for 25 years.
That said, I may trade the ex-dividend gap as I did last time instead of holding through, We'll see.

An interesting read. For me it doesn't change any of my opinions on Looney which are far from complimentary. His answers reaffirm my plan to rebalance my portfolio from currently, where BP is my largest holding.

BP has always been pretty good by sharing profits with it's shareholders with dividends until now. We have Looney driving shareholder value into the ground. If he was serious about gaining greener assets, he would raise the dividend thereby raising the share price to get back to pre-pandemic figures, and start acquiring renewable energy assets (whilst prices are still good due to the pandemic) using cash and shares with the benefit of high valued shares, and not wasting our cash on buybacks which is basically providing liquidity to sellers.
BP are at the back of the class now, selling profitable businesses and putting cash into buybacks is short term and can only benefit the BOD if there is some sort of EPS bonus package.
There is no chance of breaking out of its pandemic high of 342p (the ADR high in £).
I've started this week reducing my BP holding (initially with shares bought recently at 289) and investing into other companies more serious about shareholder value. I will be keeping an eye on the RDS/BP yields as well as chances to sell if SP is 320 to 340.
