Cuckoo “the fallacy preached that buybacks were beneficial.” That being your opinion of course. How cancelling shares cannot be beneficial to shareholders seems to be beyond your ability of thought.

Shares in issue :-

At 31/12/2016 - 71,374m
At 31/12/2017 - 71,793m
At 13/11/2018 - 71,122m (Shares bought back between 8/3/18 and 24/8/18 - 1,578m)

So Cuckoo’s claim that buybacks will be more than offset by the printing press is evidently cr@p in 2018. And how he knows in the future is anyone’s guess 🙄

Two of those 7.5m buys were cancelled and re-booked, the net being one trade of 7.5m shares which could well be a market-maker transfer between themselves. I wouldn’t read too much into that.

LYG on the Nasdaq is up 3% so we might get 60p 2mrw hopefully. Long way to go yet with Brexit. Can’t see this going smoothly somehow......

Lloyd’s can buy back upto 10% I believe Snige. Maybe another 2 sets of 4% are on their way. I remember there being an issue at VW or BMW (can’t remeber which) a few years ago when a short seller got caught and there was no float left in the market to close his position.

Not going to happen here but the simple maths will ensure the price goes up as a result of the buybacks. I’m afraid Cuckoo and a couple of others have rather stupidly and simplistically blamed a 2% buyback on the share price dropping 10-15% because they can’t think outside the box and see that Lloyd’s is a Brexit/UK economy barometer stock. A decent Brexit deal providing good economic certainty will have this stock flying. We may have to wait a while longer but I’m hopeful......

I agree Oxo but the shares have been printed by Lloyd’s for years now whether a buyback has been going or not. Cuckoo and a couple of others seem to think it is some big conspiracy when in fact it has been going on for years. He probably also thinks 9/11 didn’t happen, the world is flat and Jeremy Corbyn will improve his wealth. They still haven’t got his medication right at the asylum.....

I do hope you’re right BB and these do bounce to 75p on the back of an agreement. I’m sure a sticking plaster of a deal will be reached with the EU but whether it gets through Parliament or not is another matter.

Sadly Rob, you seem to be beyond help. I even provide you with a link so someone else can explain to you in layman’s terms what LTI and I have attempted to do but to no avail 🙄

With regards to the buyback, it has been successfully completed. You seem to expect the Board to have a crystal ball and know exactly what the bottom price for Lloyds shares would be - rather naive of you. If the price now was 70p, I have zero doubt you would not be on here praising the Board.

Rob, I’d be slightly concerned if I was you owning millions of Lloyds shares and not knowing what drives price movements.

Rob, what LTI is saying and he is absolutely correct, is that the market determines the Lloyds share price but it is 1.4p higher than it would have been had the buyback not been done. You seem unable to grasp that.

Didn’t you know LTI that the Board are supposed to know the every movement of Lloyds share price and have failed in their duty not knowing that the price would dip below the average buyback price ?

I’m not stalking you Rob ! I remember reading a post recently of yours saying you’d bought more. If you can do a better job than the board at determining the bottom price of this share, can you tell us all what that price is and I’m sure we’ll all load up on them......

As LTI has said, 1.6bn shares have been successfully purchased and cancelled. If we all knew what highs and lows exactly that share prices would go to, we’d all be billionaires. The share price has been affected by Brexit and economic uncertainty seems to be the general market consensus. Another £2bn share buyback seems eminently sensible to me as the Board must consider the share price undervalued as did you as I recall recently when you purchased more......
