I own Centrica shares. Their situation is a lot different from Lloyds.

Presumably if the average share buyback price is lower at the end of the buyback than the prevailing share price, you will consider it a success ? I seem to recall the last buyback average price was lower than the share price when it finished. In any case, reducing the share count benefits shareholders whether it is Lloyds, Centrica, Apple or whoever.

One thing we don’t want is over-tightening to put us in a deep recession. The FED seem to have got their strategy right :-aggressive rises early on and now fine tuning. Our BoE muppets are doing the big rises further down the line risking going too far as the rises take the best part of a year to be felt.

A lot will depend on bad debt provisions as to how the results are received. Sold 1/2 my holding back in March at my break-even point. There are better opportunities out there than Lloyds. Something always seems to come along to drag them back. If it’s not a recession, it will be a Labour windfall tax on banks next….

Since firing my fund manager 12 months ago, I have been managing my own pension. The reason for exit was him downplaying and underestimating the bond market reaction to inflation in that segment of my portfolio with him. We disagreed that 3% was going to be the limit of inflation in his estimate. He had the majority of my assets in UK shares. The amount of UK shares held in pensions now is tiny it might surprise you to know. Those UK 5% dividends are nice but when share prices don’t rise, you start to look around. The fool has always been the same. Different investors expressing their opinions that quite often contradict. Nothing like riding both horses in a two horse race. Waste of time.

The US seemingly have inflation under control and that is causing weakness in the USD now as rate rise expectations subside. Our morons at the BoE didn’t act soon enough and aggressively enough after all the years of loose money printing. The pound will be strong against the USD for a while whilst our muppets battle to get a lid on inflation through rate rises

UK shares are undoubtedly cheap on a comparison basis. Unfortunately, whilst we tax the country to death, we will get no growth and a stagnant economy & stock market.

Going to buy a few. If this drop is based on one Broker rating, the drop is overdone. All the director buys of late must count for something.

My building and contents renewal is due Aug 1st. Premium had gone up from £300 to £365. Have never claimed so phoned the provider and asked why it had increased by over 20%. No explanation was given and that was their best price. Went on compare the market and got it for £155. Just goes to show how these companies are ripping people off hoping you can’t be bothered to switch. Whole process took less than 15 mins.

Me too. Always top up when these go below 220p.

Not sure the US needs to raise rates that much more. Their inflation is on a decent downwards trajectory unlike ours. Not got a good vibe about the UK at present. We need growth but instead we’re just raising taxes to pay higher interest bills due to the Covid cost and the clowns at the Bank of England with their money printing press. Higher Corporation Tax is deterring investment and a recession here is a certainty. Have been buying US stocks and Japanese ETFs instead as the FTSE is heading in a familiar direction again. UK bonds will be a good bet soon. 6 1/2% interest rates factored in now to prices apparently.

Another good day if you had shorted stocks, bonds, commodities etc etc and were just sat with everything in cash lol

I’m sure Labour will look at all sorts of windfall taxes when they get in. Those who thought rapidly rising interest rates would be good for the banks only need to look at the current share price for a rude awakening. Property market is in decline, re-possessions will start in earnest, companies will default on loans and Labour is waiting to hammer companies that make profits.

The Bank of England has a lot to answer for. All the money printing was going to unravel at some point and end in disaster. Batten down the hatches……
