Yes money did get wasted on Covid but that wasn’t inflationary. Hardup is correct. Supply chains breaking down caused global inflation. Bailey was too slow acting.

The FED acted quickly unlike our morons and the basket case Eurozone has such such weak economies now that they don’t need to raise rates as high as us and the USA. Silly post jcb. Removing shares from the register increases the share price. Its current price has more to do with decreasing NIMs, bad debt provisions and fear of a Labour government imposing taxes on bank profits.

Banks and insurance companies have not fared well worldwide for a good while. The sectors are out of favour and competition is intense. Removing shares from the register using profits is beneficial to shareholders in all sectors, just on the mathematics alone.

Bailey has got everything else wrong so I predict he’ll get this wrong too and interest rates will start coming down sooner than expected.

Agreed they do have different business models hardup. But buybacks work. That’s the point I am making.

Good US companies that barely pay any dividend but use buybacks instead livestock.

Lloyds current share price is related to its dividend yield and is being priced accordingly like many shares. Lloyds will have to continue increasing profits if the share price is to rise. And then there is the fear of Labour taxes on bank profits should they achieve a clear majority at the next election. Can’t see if moving that much in the short term asides the Santa rally in the run up to the new year. Another £2bn buy back would help a bit next year.
