In my book it's just 'Merican noise; Adagio currently can offer their VC backers NO confidence that their drug offers protection against the Omicron variant. Not yet. And there's still an IF. Furthermore, their timeline is massively behind ours: Adagio anticipates that the data package to support an EUA for ADG20 will be available in the second quarter of 2022 followed by expected submission to the FDA in the third quarter of 2022.

A non-issue IMO.

It's not clear yet ref chilren. From Reuters "For practical reasons, infants who present with respiratory symptoms are treated as if they had COVID-19, but they could be sick with another disease such as flu."

Agree Joey, your point is extremely key. Age is a huge risk factor and SA Omni wave has just not tested that yet. Let it rip in a different emographic and the results may be a lot different. Remember that Covid ripped through elderly population in Lombardy Italy early in the Pandemic pretty much decimating the elderly and those with u/l conditions, while leaving the younger healthy population relatively unscathed, until the 2nd wave.
What also baffles me is the chasm between the WHO's messaging on current hospitalizations versus SA epidemiological figures published (daily/weekly and specifically on Gauteng if you drill down). This is a national organization that I would view has high integrity, so I don't understand the WHO's stance on this: https://www.nicd.ac.za/diseases-a-z-index/disease-index-covid-19/. It's all a bit baffling.

Irish government now looking into cases that date from October which may be the new variant, no conclusive answers yet:

The omicron variant was in Europe a week before South Africa reported it, according to a Dutch Health Agency today. One can only assume it originated here (Europe, and not SA) or travelled here much earlier, from another global location (SA or elsewhere). The plot thickens.

Not necessarily months. There will be larger partners who can put this into production fast. If they can do it for vaccines and other therapeutics, they can do it for another drug. It is simply naïve to think discussions of one sort or another haven’t happened, they just may not be agreed/‘finalised’. Don’t assume no news = no progress.

You’ve got to think of there is any viable way to get results out and drug in hospitals ASAP, there are people trying to make that happen. Omni is the Omega variant of yesterday.

I contacted Julia Robinson (author)on Friday to berate the fact that there was little distinction made between subcutaneous and inhaled interferon which made the inhaled version look as lacklustre as the subcut. version). She did kindly respond but as the news of Omi broke I have yet to reply. She said "Results for SNG001 were included under that interferon section – specifically the Monk et al. study published in The Lancet that I think you were referring to in your email. However, I do agree that the differentiation between the subcutaneous/inhaled formulations was not clear so I have made some additions to ensure that it is." I haven't read the updated version yet, but I will, thanks for posting link TT.
