To answer, I would say that we learn from childhood that fossil fuels pollute all around us, because people tell us it is so. It's fact we learn from a young age. But the bigger and more hard-hitting learning comes from spending time in our homes with those who suffer chronic respiratory illnesses. Listening to them wheeze, fight for breath, flounder, panic, and sometimes die, sometimes in front of us, or experience that ourselves. That is learning on a deeply tactile and personal level because it is lived viscerally inside homes and hospitals across the globe and it's consequences are more personal if that makes sense.
Perhaps it is hypocritical, but that is how it is; somehow different, somehow closer to home.

Prof Tom Wilkinson has been vocal about PM previously on Twitter. Appalled and disgusted are probably not far off the mark. The big problem for PM is that their new consumer base may be very unwilling to play ball. And what are you without customers? Be prescribed an inhaler by the same company that you believe profited from making you ill? I can't see it happening. It's the patient's choice. Once the level of disgust at this deal 'goes viral' and gains more publicity amongst patient groups globally, PM may find themselves having their inhalers ditched in their gazillions. And who would blame the patients? It's pretty grotesque development. This has all the makings of a really, really ill-advised and costly gig for PM.

Docdaneeka, I'm glad we're agreed on that. When both MAB and SNG001 treatments fall into a similar pricing band, I suggest each drug's USP will become more of the deciding factor than just cost, such as portability, ease of use, safety, stock longevity, viral-agnostic capabilities. We know SNG001 has many (non-cost) benefits that can rival MABs. Why else would we be invested here if that were not the case?

"If the synthetically produced alternatives can be made to do the same thing and save lives for less money". Less money? You talk as if both of these MABs are cheap, they are not. REGEN-COV has a list price of about $1,250 per dose, while sotrovimab is more than $2,000 per dose. Add in the cost of required IV trained staff. How is that saving lives for less money?

Ditto for the mistaken belief that MABs will run SNG001 out of the market. There is a severe lack of drugs available to treat Covid - you think a bunch of MABs is goingto be the answer? Why then are the FDA proceeding with incredibly costly and lengthy studies on the likes of SNG001? Answer that.

SNG001 is not a MAB, haven't we discussed this time and time again? IV versus inhalation. I'm sure Richard, Janet Wood**** et al tire of repeating this, but I'll just say it again ...... "we need a toolkit", not a tool. "We need a ****tail of drugs" (plural, to combat resistance). That's different drugs, with different delivery methods, treating different patients in different settings.

Roll on the MABs as always, they are not a threat to SNG001. If anything, they will complement the toolkit.

The original study which this article relates to was published end Sept in Frontiersin.org. and it was sun-cutaneous IB that was given. Of note from that study: "Patients were also treated for COVID-19 and one or more of the following were given: clofazimine (12), ribavirin, interferon beta-1b, or remdesivir (2). Dexamethasone (13) and subcutaneous low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) (14) were added at physicians’ discretion as clinically indicated." "Interferon beta-1b was given once daily subcutaneously at a dose of 16 million IU. "
Later they state "In our cohort, most interferon-treated patients were also treated with ribavirin, and none were treated with ribavirin alone. It could be difficult to tell whether interferon beta-1b alone or the interferon-ribavirin combination accounted for the increase in anti-thyroid antibody titres."

Did the other drugs play a part in their findings? Did the disease Covid-19 play a part? Did the sub-cutaneous delivery method play a part? Did the dosage play a part? Did the frequency of dosage play a part? Did the mean age of the participants play a part?
I could go on.

This is like comparing apples to pears etc, etc. No raw data published with with article. I would say wholly inconclusive until they address the above questions.

My takeaway from RM's comments was a bit different to yours. You seem to have understood an emphasis on government support equating to 'orders'. I took it to mean prioritisation by governments/ being treated with urgency to get EUA, something he has mentioned before. That equals support. Bear in mind that if we get that government support, the orders will follow unequivocally. SNG001 would represent a new tool in the toolbox that has been hitherto unavailable. No government will sit on the sidelines (caveat: Boris may be too busy stuffing his gaseous head with battered cod, but I'm sure that other governments will willingly step up to secure any proved EUA drug that will potentially be in short supply). Listening to RM's interview with Katie the day after the interims, he was very specific about the conditions for getting an approved SNG001 out to market in 2022:
"We need good data from the clinical trial. Governments have got to be comfortable that the clinical need that our drug is handling warrants urgent treatment, in terms of by the governments. If we don't get good data and Covid disappears, no one is going to treat us with any urgency. And then we need the approval. So, there's a few 'if's' in there but we are confident that he drug is going to going to be beneficial we've just got to prove it"

If we get the data the orders WILL follow. But we need Covid to still be an urgent pressing matter for governments. I cannot see how that last point will be a hurdle, given the data we currently have on the pandemic.

Just my take.

Synairgen can't RNS before the US make an official announcement. We will have to wait for our US taskmasters to communicate progression or exit 'officially' first. The trial is not run by Synairgen so it's not their call to communicate about it by RNS this morning. Like Castro, they (and we) are awaiting the official word. In my midn the reason there's been no retraction is because both messages by Castro were correct - we have not failed P2 and we are moving forward, (but first) safety data has to be reviewed.

You forgot the bit about deducing that SNG001 must have passed on efficacy. It's a fair deduction - you wouldn't go through safety data of a drug that wasn't efficacious. That would be a waste of time.

That's the crux of it Saxondale, We also know that if there were serious safety concerns at any point in the trial it would have been withdrawn then and there. So yes safety review outstanding, but looking fairly positive IMO.....

I don't think that could be the case. He said 2 failed on efficacy, and 2 are having their safety data reviewed. To me that reads it passed on efficacy and safety data is the final hurdle.

Think of it this way - if it failed on efficacy they wouldn't then bother using resource to nitpick through our safety data. That would be a bad use of already constrained resources.
