That was after a long stare into the distance (and maybe the cringing heads of HR and Legal boffins). That was the extent of his answer to 'Nigel's' question so make if it what you will.

We know the safety data is very very likely to be good based on historic, so i assume it's a case of them crossing the T's and dotting the i's by still going through every bit of safety data first as they Have to do? Mabs is IV, it could be they have to work harder to get trialists involved or get data on more Afro-American trialists which have turned out for trials in lower numbers across the trials board, hence the 'marketing lite' by focussing on mabs today? Amber's story is compelling though.

Understood Matterhorn, thanks for clarifying. I do see some value in the WH briefings, if just to give us a call on which way the wind is blowing in the US. I know we won't hear of Synairgen by name or even alluded to sometimes, but it's good to know focus is now definitely turning to antiviral therapeutics rather than just vaccines over there. It is overdue.

prion25, I'm just grateful that SNG001 is not a rectally administered drug. It would need the widest possible description to fly under the radar of commercial sensitivity. So, all things considered, it could be worse!

Some responses have taken this out of context referring to commercial sensitivity etc., which was not the point. Thank you Geovanni for clarifying at 12.55, we agree that to mention an inhaled drug would imply SNG001 and that's a no-no, which gives even more weight to the fact that he didn't say 'oral pills only' he cast a wider net in his wording 'direct-acting orally available drugs'.
Prion, "Direct antivirals" is not the wording used. It was "Direct-acting, orally available antivairals". The 2 are different. Molupanivir is not a direct-acting agent, as a pill it has to be ingested via the GI tract first. A small but not inconsequential understanding. SNG001 is a direct-acting agent, because it goes to the exact site of action where it is needed, straight into the lungs.

It feels like splitting hairs here and the point gets lost and laboured on a BB such as this where everyone jumps in with a different angle to the original. Some of you believe the WH briefing was only about pills, and having read the language Fauci used carefully, I don't. We can agree to disagree. In the heel of the hunt, arguing over symantics doesn't matter - if Fauci was only interested in oral pills we'd have been ejected quite a way back along with the majority of the other trialists. The proof of the pudding is in the fact SNG001 is still baking in the ACTIV oven.

Yes it's an immunomodulator. But it's also orally inhaled. One does not exclude the other.
How do you explain the "direct acting" ? Oral pills are not more direct acting than in,haled drugs intended to treat the lungs, the opposite is actually true, orally inhaled drugs work faster on the lungs than pills. I agree there is some reading into it which is why I cross chceked a number of other papers including Lancet articles. My point was not to say that Faucis highlighted text is referring to SNG001 ON ITS OWN and no other drugs. It was to say that as a direct-acting, orally AVAILle drug", no one should think SNG001 is excluded. I don't agree that it refers to "the pills and only the pills".

Take a look at Fauci's slide at 12.28 - highlighted text of importance "direct acting, orally available antiviral drugs remains a very high priority in the Covid-19 therapeutic research respone".

SBG001 s a non intravenous drug which puts it in the oral category. Not convinced? The Lancet has also referred to SNG001 as an oral drug - e.g. "A currently ongoing trial evaluating SNG001, an oral inhalation version of interferon-beta" in this Lancet article: https://www.thelancet.com/journals/eclinm/article/PIIS2589-5370%2821%2900023-7/fulltext

Pills are not the only oral drugs. For me this is B&W in Fauci's slide at 12.28, that he is including orally inhaled drugs under the banner 'oral'.

IMO this White House briefing is a positive for SNG001. The focus is indeed on drugs like ours.

Another angle on passing into A2P3, beyond Covid, is that I feel the US DHS will be watching closely for any drugs in the ACTIV trials like SNG001 that can ALSO be stockpiled for bioterrorism and other respiratory treatment uses, having the virus agnostic benefit that it has. We know that Synairgen, at the time of the MERS-CoV outbreak in 2013, collaborated with the National Institutes of Health in the US to show that SNG001 could protect against MERS-CoV infection of lung cells in vitro. If A2P3 returns favourable data for SNg001, I can imagine that it will pique interest in other parts of the US government, beyond Covid. Of course further trials/testing may be necessary, or not, but our participation in ACTIV to the very end (if we progress), can only be a positive thing when you look at the wider potential applicability of the drug in the USA.
