What happens now26 May 2022 19:47
I have been a long term holder since 2015, doing some buying and selling along the way, but kept faith in Newland (contemporary at university). Finally, now we have genuinely something to shout about after years of endless delays etc.
Having worked in pharma industry, and as a city insider, I would make the following observations about comments on teh way forward posted here and on other sites:
1. AN will be fully aware that they need to move projects along quickly & start capitalising on the FDA approval....that will require a much bigger infrastructure with all the associated costs
2. M&A and prospect of Angle getting taken over: a distinct possibility given teh game-changing nature of what AN and the team have achieved.....on Abbott which comes up a lot...Abbott's reputation and leadership are really under the cosh in US because of a contaminated baby milk scandal which is fast becoming a reputational disaster for them -they have their hands full fighting fires there. And remember these behemoths move very slowly when it comes to M&A transactions...so I think there is plenty of runway left for AN to grow the company, build capabilities & grow revenues and profits....but that will take cash and lots of it....so yes he needs to raise more cash to improve his negotiating position and turbo charge the business expansion....
3. UK investors as usual have sod all idea of how to value this sort of company. My experience is that they pay scant attention to game-changing businesses like this till it's too late and they have been snapped up (GW Pharma etc). There isnt the expertise or deep pools of capital here to back this sort of company and AN knows this only too well. Risk appetite in Europe is woeful.
4. Jefferies appointment was in my view expressly to get cracking on a NASDAQ listing (post successful FDA). With the FDA approval, AN will be welcomed with open arms by US investors who recognise what is needed to get these companies to grow quickly, understand the sector, and are prepared to throw large amounts of cash at a company like this at much higher valuation.
5. What does this mean? Well either AN goes for dual listing UK/Nasdaq (doable but costly in time and money satisfying both sets of shareholders), or AN decides to cancel listing here and go to Nasdaq. That will be a controversial decision given he knows full well the backing he has got from UK investors and medical community here etc...but he will know full well that the capital pools needed to fund rapid development of Angle are in the US not here sadly..and if he wants to stay independent for as long as possible, that's his best route. The fact that he in the US obn the day FDA announcement broke was no coincidence and speaks volumes....
6. What are UK investors to do?If you recognise Angle's dilemma but have faith that AN has the skills to grow this company and persuade US investors to back him big time, then I think you back him with every spare cent you have
