From the article it's not entirely clear if households will pay less for the power that they will be encouraged to use when a surplus is predicted to be likely. The approach I'd like to see would be exposure of consumers to the live whole sale price (adjusted to account for the suppliers margin) and let people, or smart devices, decide how much power to use. I think many consumers would modify their usage when they see the wild fluctuations in prices that regularly occur. Maybe a voluntary tariff for those that don't mind sitting in the dark when it's Β£10/KWhr and switching everything on when the price is below zero! But sure, some big electrolyzers hung on the system to use surplus is a no brainer - how else to produce the hydrogen needed by industry and for synthetic fuel. Great to see ITM finally getting the recognition, and the sp, it deserves.
