Thanks guys very interesting and helgful- it has clarified what appears to be happening - seems like to me the gain for shareholders has been watered down - Does anyone know if shareholders are going to be offered anything when Whitbread will announce this?

Can someone explain - are the shareholders going to receive anything re the sale to coca cola?????

I agree it is nice to think of £50.00 but it will get higher the Costa sell effect is still to come more buyers than sellers at the moment and it is January of course - Feb's slowdown for this share may not happen due to pay out etc very interesting as a shareholder I am expecting lots from the sell of Costa....

It is very interesting what is happening as for me I am on my tip toes looking to land with both feet firmly on the ground and make some money but it may mean bailing out and joining in later on - if there is a big bang wealth will come afterwards as Jack says that is what will happen definitely 100 per cent otherwise were would capitalism be.

Hi Jack You sound like the voice of reason but there is no rhyme or reason to the stock market how can money be made in the stock market unless there are downs and ups the issue for shareholders of this share is that if the Labour Party win the next election then....so doubt goes with this share................

NAT Grid how solid do they come the market speculation -Brexit and the consequences we have to suffer to gain we gain on this share that is for definite what goes down comes up that is the way and always will be Brexit and an Election are far off

Whitbread are solid with Costa - without are they an attractive buy?

The market has to have its downs and ups or the system just would not work but this time we all know if Labour win they will buy back ( the market usually works on speculation etc ) If the Conservatives win then the price will gain ...... I think it is too soon for the price drop of this share and it will gain a little and lose a little and some of us that play the game well will make money

I have every faith that Whitbread will have a £50.00 share price they are a solid company and Costa its the best coffee in the UK long live Whitbread and the UK

did they not avoid paying uk corporation tax?????????? If costa keeps the standards and a good standard of cafe then they will be hard to beat...........

Hi I agree petertee no-one should under estimate this share it will reach dizzy heights I beleive that £40.00 a share in 2014 is possibile if not likely this is on appearances a well run company and if it stays true to its core values the returns will remain big

I believe strongly this share will reach 3,000.00 easily whitbread run their company finances excellently and their staff are always invested in making every customer a welcome guest try their goods Investing in their staff and caring for their customers what more do you want from a blue chip company

I am one of the lucky ones I bought these shares when they where real low. I seriously feel there is still more to come Whitbread are a tighly run company so I am staying in and looking forward to how much money they will make when the OLympics are in the UK

What has happened to these rumours of whitbread being taken over and share price should reach £23.00
