If FTTP conversion at 35% is lacklustre, then what do you call 99% of altnets in single figures or even fractions of single figures?

EE brand and products are miles ahead of Vodafone… they’re seen as as old and unfashionable as the BT brand was.

Not only are they going to have to rebrand but also take 10 years to catch up with EE as it is now… and we all know EE is now in 5G+ mode. Who knows where the technology will have taken them by then.

EE are in a great place to swoop on to really unhappy wholesale Voda customers like SKY mobile.

In fact it could be a great opportunity by Comcast to tie in with EE BT and maybe bid for the whole company. I’m sure there’s a good chance the Government would be willing to co-operate with US owners.

Not true Rod, They’ve been paid £105 million for the first 3,000 tons and someone I know works for Heavy Cable recovery for one of the contractors MJQuinn who alone pulled out over 600 tons of it in 3 months…

I’ve met Marc a couple of times. I think he thought he’d get the top job but it went to AK. He’s been at BT a long time and was in on the deal when BT bought out DX Communications from an old pal of mine Richard Emanuel.

Then they have to find 11 billion for investment just to keep up with EE coverage which is already on their second stage of 5G… how much debt will they be in then? Aren’t they already about £60 billion in debt?

Rod, there won’t be any strike called by the CWU… look at their statements after the last pay deal. They agreed it with BT along with ‘future agreements’ or words to that effect.

From what I hear, no department across the BT Group is immune from paid leaver schemes in full flow at the moment. My nephew is in the BT Thunderbirds and even they have been offered it. Their real title is ERT. Emergency Response Team. I call them Thunderbirds lol…

From conversations about OR engineers my theory is that in the next 12 months all copper only engineers will be offered paid leaver or TUPE to one of the 2 main contractors. FTTP trained will be retained.

The 5 year contract started in 2020 so are close to maturity. BT gave the option to extend if required but they have no job security guarantee over the initial period. The union cannot intervene. The contract is watertight.

BT is transitioning right before our eyes it’s just that we cannot see it as we are not on the inside experiencing these changes.

550 engineers from the fibre build are going in December. That’s around 3,000 this year alone. Next year it’ll be double that. Probably more if my TUPE theory is correct.

Hi Max, I’m not sure, but I’d have thought ultra high sensitive traffic would bypass exchanges and go through secure data centres. Fleccy is the man to ask as he’s genned up on this kind of thing. I could be wrong but I don’t think they use the normal transmission protocol as would be used for domestic traffic.

Fleccy informed us about Quantum security systems that BT are trialling for ultra high sensitivity traffic. Back in the day this stuff would primarily be routed via the BT Tower servers but now that’s sold off it obviously goes through different paths.

For anyone interested in one of the companies that BT are using to aid the exchange closure programme.

Max, it’s one thing building a fibre network but it’s another thing where the data flows too. BT have some top secret departments that manage the network connecting military bases and GCHQ etc. An altnet could of course propose building an alternative network to do the same thing but the cost to maintain it would probably be unprofitable.

I’m hearing that Openreach will start a new line of business installing EV points at customer premises subject to a successful trial period then it will be rolled out nationwide.

From the scant details I think non power engineers will install the equipment and a power engineer will hook it into the mains. At least the company is now looking beyond the old copper and past the FTTP build for new revenues.

SK, do you have documented proof for these increased sales and profits of BT’s competitors? If it’s altnets then they’re coming from a very low to nothing base to start with as they are new companies.

It’s one thing saying we’ve increased our customer base and revenue but it’s quite another to say that they’re actually making profits of which I doubt any are bar possibly CF but given the amount that debt to equity they all carry then it’s a misleading statement.

BT continues to make huge monthly gains on FTTP footprint along with an industry leading percentage of take up at the same time cutting costs both through estate and man power.

Bit of a lazy article tbf… it shows one graphic of BT performance against another 4 or 5 that have Zero to little regulation on them compared to what BT has had since its existence. It’s constantly trying to operate with one hand tied behind its back.

Interesting it’s based on Bridgewise AI, I’ve heard them being referred to as Mossad technology arm so they must have excellent information.

So this Le Patourel worked for Ofcom but obviously didn’t carry out his duties as he should have brought the allegations to light whilst an employee…. This isn’t as open and shut case as some think. No doubt BT will offer this up and if proven up then sue Ofcom in return for not doing their primary regulation duties…
