I agreed that the reduction in hospitalisations and deaths is the primary goal but that doesn't justify the obscure tactics employed by the government. It is a fact that the trend in hospitalisations tends to follow the trend in infection rates (with some lag); similarly for deaths. An increase in the number of infections is a first indication that things may not be working as expected; that information should not be obscured by the government's reporting. The second point is more general: people should be given an opportunity to see the facts and make up their minds rather than being fed pre-processed propaganda designed to make them feel good about the government.

The really annoying change in the government's stance was the dropping of comparisons whenever they became uncomfortable. I reckon that they'll stop reporting the weekly change as soon as it turns bad (so, this coming Wednesday or Thursday?).

Ah, the good old Guardian. They were also among the few to report about those unbelievable furlough payments to the likes of Prince Abdulaziz bin Ahmed bin Abdulaziz al-Saud and Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the latter claiming furlough payments for his office and luxury apartments! Just as promised by our lovely chancellor: I will do anything it takes... to help a fellow billionaire. :-)

I've been trying to find a national news outlet that would report the fact that Covid cases have increased in the last two days compared with the last weekend. (An increase of ~500 yesterday and the same today.) Nothing. Zilch. Local newspapers in Manchester, Warrington and some other cities talk about an increase in the local infection rates but you won't find anything on the government website, the BBC, Sky News or any other major news providers' websites that would indicate a trend reversal for England as a whole. There's plenty of gloating about new vaccination records though.

A particularly annoying thing is that the government website stopped providing comparisons for those categories that show no positive progress; it only shows the "good" stuff. The comparisons disappear as soon as the stats turn "bad" for the government.

Putin and Erdogan would be proud of our government and the media, including the BBC which is turning into a pro-Boris propaganda machine. I guess that's what the people voted for though!

I agree: the only way is up! I'm not surprised by the SP reaction though: a lot of people bought at a much lower price and are simply taking their profits now because they don't fancy another few weeks of waiting for the 3D model, etc. A lot of them will be chasing another rainbow (apparently, it's all about erectile dysfunction cremes today) but will be back at some point.

I reckon that CB will buy another small tranche of shares imminently and that we'll see some institutional buying next week, once the news are digested.

Slow (relatively speaking, say 1-2p per week) but steady growth for the foreseeable future, please! And some TR-1's as well.
