Tweet of the year @Gbanks29126 Aug 2024 07:16
After re-reading and rewatching all content on #AVCT website, it really is hard to downplay the vast potential this platform has.A wrapper for toxic drugs enabling higher doses to be given more frequently and for longer.
What pharma company wouldn’t want to be able to sell more drug for a longer period of time.
What patient wouldn’t want fewer life threatening, misery inducing side effects during their cancer treatments.
What treating clinician wouldn’t want to give a safer more pleasant drug to their patients with higher specificity and efficacy.
Clear proof of concept shown by the 2 log difference between blood concentration and tumour concentration of drug when measured.
Clear efficacy shown in end of life patients who had already been heavily pretreated to no avail. This has been shown in the phase 1a dose escalation study which is designed purely to look at safety and tolerability - not efficacy. This is shown in a mix of patients, some of whom have cancers not usually treated by anthracyclines.
Think what the efficacy data will be once we move into the phase 1b expansion cohorts then into phase 2 efficacy studies where patients with cancers typically treated by anthracyclines are selected.
And that’s just the start. The pathfinder. The platform prover. Any pharma analyst will tell you their industry depends on pipelines - no pipeline, no party. Just as well Avacta have already hinted at what’s to come, and plan to release full details and timescales of their pipeline by the end of the year.
More precision protected cytotoxic cancer killing drugs, which can lean on decades worth of clinical data for safety profiling and efficacy - as the beauty here is these would not be classified as new drugs and instead modified drugs - negating the need to go through lengthy expensive trials.
The Affirmer platform - 10 times smaller than an antibody with 10,000,000,000 different phage combinations to make small, cheap highly flexible solutions for previously difficult to drug targets such as G-protein coupled receptors. Do you want one specific target, or multiple targets in one molecule? This can do whatever you want. How about if you wanted to link an affirmer to precision, giving first in class therapeutic possibilities.
What about beyond just cancer treatment? A partnership with Daewoong Pharmaceuticals to form Affyxell is looking into having mesenchymal cells either express or secrete proprietary Affirmers to target conditions like MS, type 1 diabetes, graft versus host disease (GvHD) and solid organ transplant rejection.
The possibilities to come from a platform which is already proven to be safe and effective are truly mind blowing.
It is absolutely baffling to me that others cannot understand the immense value and opportunities Avacta offer, and try to smear a team of world leading scientists tackling oncology’s most difficult problem. Clinicians and big pharma definitely won’t miss this though, and in the end tha
