Madpunter, I have Irish and Scottish ancestry amongst others. So I know that people on these islands suffered. The Highlands clearances, the Irish potato famine, having their lands taken by the English, and forced to migrate. But, there is no way you can compare what African slaves went through in the new world to what poor folks in the UK endured. The slaves had no freedom to choose, to pursue their dreams, to even prevent their children from being sold. At least poor UK people had their freedom to choose, to immigrate to the colonies to seek a better life. The slaves did have that freedom of choice.
So, there is no comparison between African chattel slavery and what poor folks in the UK endured back then.
