Just seen this on Bloomberg - OCDO filing antitrust suit against Autostore... must be pretty confident !
I'm also purplexed by the ebb and flow of this one, I'd expect a steady rise then a plateau... Fingers crossed for a decent Divi to make up for the lack of sp growth!
I'm not a social clothes shopper, I have a strong idea of what I want to buy, but being tall with childbearing hips (not the easiest fit to accommodate for a bloke, lol) I definitely like to try stuff on for fit, and feel the quality before buying... Not had much luck with internet clothes shopping, with mixed experience of returns procedure etc... So I'm not sold yet... However... Once you trust a brands quality (like m&s, Charles tyrwhitt etc) and get what you're used to , then buying those brands online for mundane things like shirts, underwear etc, is less of a leap.
I'm quite glad it's dipped slightly, good opportunity to buy some more!
I looked at the links to the patent cases someone posted a few days ago on here... The two companies clearly have very different mechanisms performing a similar task... I have as close friend who worked in the UK patent office in Cardiff, and the jist I got was that these things take years to go through, and looking at the objections in the docs shared here, it's all petty spelling and wording legal definitions being objected to, so I can see why it takes so long! Although I'm engineering trained (hence my interest/belief in this tech share!) And not legal trained, it looks very much from the documents like the patent wars are far more about causing bad press than legitimate design/IP concerns... I'd compare it to the designer of the Suzuki swift trying to claim that Tesla copied it's car design, due to it having 4wheels and an engine. Totally different designs, but same purpose. On a different point... I note you mentioned Morrisons store pick was increasing rapidly in comparison to Ocado Neil H... Who are they paying to provide them with that store pick technology/software/ capability?
There seems lots of resistance around the 130 mark now chiltinng, I'd also love to throw any spare I have this way from the Christmas pay packet... I know I won't have much chance to spend it at parties, lol... But I don't think we'll get it much cheaper than it is now.
Just been looking at the Kindred website, looks like they have robotic arms capable of easily picking clothing items in soft packaging, that will undoubtedly be useful with the MKS side of the business and open up the market for Its full systems in the future. Nice move! I doubt it means I get any dividends for a bit longer from this stock, but I’ll take the SP increase it deserves...
Useful reading Casapinos - thanks for that. I can't help wondering if the patent issue is just a political bargaining chip to gain publicity for Autostore 'The Grocer.co.uk' said Autostore have filed - no idea on the legitimacy of this, but wrote their legal is saying Autostore is 'All-in' - understandable, but misguided from what i've researched, autostore is relatively limited in size and capacity compared to what Ocado can offer - providing just the storage solution with slower tech - so my guess is they see their product being swallowed by ocado - so why not take the gamble? The money they spent on lawyers will likely be comparable to spend on some decent PR/marketing and they get to temporarily through some smoke and mirrors in the direction of their new nemesis. - I would ask why if the Autostore solution was so capable, why a Grocer would feel compelled to spend 20 years building something bigger/ better/ faster to meet their own needs or be foolish enough to risk that amount of effort not being watertight on the IP front - I suspect this is unlikely. It could even be that Autostore are attempting to goad an acquisition from Ocado and hope this will up the ante. I'm no business expert though - so this is purely conjecture, I just smell a rat.
underperform +sell is still less than hold + buy etc, neil - still the majority on the upside. your big comment about 3.4% down today is following an upturn over the last few days which took it up more than todays loss - pointless making a big deal about that size of movement with this stock as it is very volatile an swings both ways .. long term it's still showing signs of going up though. Oh - and they appear to be winning awards still... https://view.computing.co.uk/incisive-awards-computing/p/5?hsamp_network=linkedin&hsamp=bkYdtz8tWMjWV
If Ocado thought there was any real threat from the IP battle - there would be a slow down in opening new sites etc... as the outlay of building them would be too great a risk. My sources say that is quite the opposite - and the push is for faster build so customers benefit from online sooner.

This is a very interesting article - the rest of the back-end stuff that Ocado do and stuff like in-store pick solutions is also in their arsenal from what i read - so regardless of the storage solution IP fight - Ocado will still continue to profit from it's other technologies. It is amusing to watch the bullying influence tactics of the shorters on this chat trying to persuade people to sell to improve their own lot. DYOR etc.
this rise must be hurting your short then Oracle? I'm staying put until I hear how much of an impact it's had on MKS income - if its positive, bearing in mind it's only 2 months since they started working together, then a full quarters results next feb should also be positive - which would give the rest of the market confidence that what Ocado offers is a benefit to the retail customer.
