Sorry for late late reply, first time I have looked in on this board despite owning a few TTE shares.
French shares attract a withholding tax of 30% except if held in a Frech investment package such as a PEA (like a UK share ISA). I have read that the withholding tax can be claimed back by non-French residents but am not sure how. Perhaps ask your fund manager?
Why is the tax so high? Because France wants to retain its gold medal standing among developed economies for tax take. And, to listen to the NUPES wing of the National Assembly, 100% of dividends from CAC40 companies should be taken by the state to cover the current pension crisis that allows some workers (state ones of course) to retire before reaching 60. Now what a brilliantly stupid idea that would be.
So is crossing the road. We do so without thought because we do not worry about the odds of getting knocked over. Deltic (and every other stock on the market) has an element of risk. We reduce the risk of failure by researching.
I have to disagree with your analogy of red / black. That has preset odds (50/50, no?) Like tossing a coin. We are well past that stage. Now the odds are much more favourable ... but it's still a gamble, of course. Investing in shares, regardless of the company, always has a level of risk.
Perhaps 1% interest in a deposit account might be more to your taste?
It's all about the odds Push2. We were given a 55/45% chance of success/failure on the drill. The coin came down on the good side.
Now we are waiting to see whether the gas find is commercial or not. I have no idea what those odds are 2:1 on, 3:1 on? Perhaps someone like Explorer can give us a better answer but all I do know is that we have cleared the most difficult hurdle.
I just voted on line. But did you all note the softening up rns yesterday? Tanzania (apparently and how timely) has no more USD and so will settle in Tanz Shillings. Apparently a lose-lose for Wentworth. Better agree the t/o while we still have time to grap the crazy offer from our foolish partners.
I voted against both BTW.
I'm out of the loop on Coro. Can anyone tell me why the Italian gas assets are being sold at €6 million when they appear so cash generative? Seems very cheap given the recent revenue.
Is this simply to have cash to purchase more solar panels in Vietnam or am I missing something?
