I would usually bow to your greater knowledge on qd but a quick search shows Blue quantum dots absolutely exist and are crucial for high-quality displays making them CF efficient and stable has been a major technical challenge.

2015 Nanoco worked with LG to produce cfqd display with DOW supplying the dots. Things fell apart because the blue CFQD didn't perform as well as the cadmium dots so it would appear LG went to Nanosys. I also think we lost Plessey for the same reason. Why Nanoco couldn't supply a stop gap cadmium dot to keep the supply chain is a mystery.

Originally cadmium was due to be banned on 21 November 2025 in May 2024 EU received an exemption request for the use of cadmium in LED chips

I would suspect Shoei have game planned this scenario. Point one, the EU cadmium ban was predictable so no surprise there. No cadmium allowed in displays. On Point 2 I think the non infringement action is corporate pragmatism. They want to test the IP validity before negotiating a licence agreement. It's possible shoei and Nanoco have already had preliminary discussions.

I suspect Shoei non infringement action was born out of the Nanoco’s settlement with LG. If Nanosys was the supplier of qd matrix LG would now be talking to Shoei saying you've just cost us $5m how do we go forward with you as a supplier you need to arrive at an agreement with Nanoco or challenge the IP.

IDMA. This new JDA could be an obstacle for some buyers, depending on its contents. There will be exit and termination clauses, the difficulty is Intellectual Property Rights and who owns what IP remember they have been working together for 4 years. Background IP of Nanaco and the Asian company. (pre-existing IP brought to the table) generally remains with the original owner, who grants a license to the other party for the project's scope.

New IP created during the JDA ownership will be determined in the agreement, which might involve sole ownership by one party with a license to the other or joint ownership.

The previous JDA which has concluded was expected to result in 'industrial production levels during 2026 and 2027' Nanoco have been working with the Asian company since 2021. It is conceivable orders and the new JDA run concurrently. Possibly the new 3 year JDA allows a framework for the two companies to work closely on innovation while protecting their individual interests and concluding litigation.

I don't believe we had an exact start date for the 2 year JDA. We had notice in had commenced on the 7th November 23. Possible outcomes, renewed, not renewed or product orders, collaboration with this partner goes back to 2021 apparently. This From 2021 'Asian customer" sensing collaboration: The company was continuing to work with an Asian customer on the development of its second-generation sensing materials, with commercial potential over the medium term.'

Looks to be a move away from CFQD and a focus on what the customer needs, markets are asking for. Could also explain the N Picket move. Follow Nanosys with the updated website, Japanese completely in the driving seat now plus a Itoshima QD foundry. I think this is where Nanoco are following. A bid for Nanoco is not a given far from it. Corporate always come down to individuals sitting around and coming to a decision based on career goals. LG are not in the running they can't make the numbers work for a bid and it's not in the Korean mindset. The commercial hurdles aren't insurmountable for a bid but the LG Litigation is a liability imposible to evaluate. It would be extraordinary to buy a company facing the liability of court action against LG. Nanoco can't be valued while the court case is outstanding. Buyer and seller equation won't accept the LG litigation, it's a valuation, liability that negates display entirely until resolved.
