An interesting ABB container image albeit CGI at top of this page:

This looks interesting. ABB MOU signed on Friday with MEDATech who make mining vehicles:
https://new.abb.com/news/detail/82253/abb-and-medatech-sign-agreement-to-explore-technologies-for-net-zero-emissions-of-heavy-industrial-machinery-in-mining
“It launched the world’s first commercially available 100 percent electric mining haul truck, the Western Star 4900XD, which has ultra-fast charging capability, accepting a charge power of 600kW.
“The collaboration could involve exploring further development and possible technologies for high power and automated charging and connector systems to facilitate the adoption of BEVs in industries with heavy machinery.“
Please don’t turn it down!!
Under the agreements, AFC Energy is afforded a Right of First Refusal across multiple years, to supply H-PowerTM fuel cell systems into ABB’s high power EV charging network of international customers where customer or site power demands are absent or require further resilience.

Designed for the harsh environment of mining
The solution is made ready for the harshest environmental conditions prevailing in mining with specifically designed enclosure solutions to prevent the ingress from dust and dirt.
I see Dr. D Harvey on behalf of AFC was at Supergen Net Zero conference yesterday “on uses of fuel cells, hydrogen and its carriers in the rail and marine sector in the industry session at the #COP26Supergen #Net Zero event.”

Aim of event “…to interact with stakeholders to provide comprehensive scientific information to support policymaking in the run up to COP26.”

Never heard of it. Just sharing!
Right Scarpa, doesn’t seem to be a fuel cell system, and whilst pretty empty on detail CAT didn’t just throw this release out, just like MACE and Altaaqa and Acciona didn’t just start up a relationship with AFC without exploring the market, and if a massively established player like CAT had something equivalent in the short term pipeline I’m pretty confident they wouldn’t have bothered with AFC. I’d hope via MACE etc that CAT end up being another Altaaqa for us but that’s wishful thinking right now. Fully agree that some news and further updates out of AFC would of course be welcome but confident that the rest of Q3 and Q4 won’t be quiet.
“Yeah hi there, I’d like to buy one and a half million of those AFC Energy shares please.”
“Ok, one moment please… yep that’s all gone through for you. Have a nice life”
“Cheers then, I think I might just do”
Said someone today!?
They’re looking to have a product late 2022. Up to 50kw. PEM technology. Meanwhile, we’re already running a 40kw for ExE with an ectrolyser system ( https://www.afcenergy.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/How-green-hydrogen-is-made.pdf ), plus about to deliver a 160kw system for Acciona. AB repeatedly said there’s room for a lot of players in this enormous market. Think we’re well placed here already.
I really couldn’t understand the benefit of BMS anyway, who were we going to market/sell to there? This is a need to know bit of tech (and think those that need it, know us through partners/behind the scenes discussions, eg 50 pipeline), attending a largely general public show seemed daft to me. Glad they’re prioritising time/focus etc!
Sorry, don’t mean to peddle rumour Scarpa, only thing I’ve seen is AFC on Twitter saying “our team” off to Greenland and also Sardinia in Oct. AB not mentioned. Just my wishful thinking for a new announcement re. maritime in the absence of new information. I’m in the silence = massive news to follow camp!
Interesting money83, glad Maersk have reached a stumbling block there. I have this dream whereby the reason AB is off to Greenland is to announce a deal with Maersk of Denmark and elaborate on who/what the strategic maritime partner collaboration is all about.
Does anyone know if they’re buying into AFC, can’t yet seem to find holdings breakdown
Irrelevant. That’s a partnership to produce green hydrogen, which might well end up in an AFC installation. Are Acciona using Plug’s PEM cells for power? No. Are Acciona trialling AFC’s cells, with an ammonia v. hydrogen v. diesel efficiency test? Yes.
Just seen the ExE race will be in new location of Sardinia in October. Good news as the Brazil location was cancelled. And interpreting the HY results we got £150k for the first race and further revenue to be earned through completion of remaining races, so a positive location switch rather than fewer races (without knowing anything else about the contract).
“They use power generated by solar canopies above the chargers together with a network of hybrid solar farms.”
Sorry, I’m probably missing something but can’t see where AFC could come in to it? I posted earlier that the CMA looking into the monopoly here, and the need for government to target funding off the motorway network into more remote locations. And hopefully locations where AFC’s ABB tie-up could shine…
https://www.theguardian.com/business/2021/jul/23/electric-cars-uk-government-urged-to-prevent-charging-deserts?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
“Forecasts cited by the CMA suggest the public charger network needs to expand by at least 10 times by 2030, from the current 25,000 to between 280,000 and 480,000 public charge points.
“The CMA said the government needed to accelerate investment in rapid-charging networks, provide more funding and support to local authorities to invest in charger networks, and make it easier and cheaper for companies to connect new chargers to the electricity grid. The government should also consider targeting extra funding off the motorway in more remote locations, the regulator said.”
I think it must be the case they’ve been accumulating. This link also shows AFC as in the top 10 holdings: https://fundcentres.lgim.com/uk/en/fund-centre/ETF/Hydrogen-Economy/#Overview
But the spreadsheet download of full portfolio details doesn’t match. So maybe that’s yet to be updated. AFC haven’t long been included (the whole thing not long ago launched anyway) but it’s growing in size. Haggis emailed them about AFC I recall!
So, Isy has posted a short video of the solar arrays providing electricity for the container unit that was loaded on at Valencia (“hydrogen for a greener world” on the side) which is the AFC branded electrolyser with a tank of water next to it. Do we know any further details on that (upstream hydrogen generation system) or maybe a nice RNS on Tuesday re. tech?
https://instagram.com/stories/izyofficial/2584620057640561197?utm_medium=copy_link
"The new generation of proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysers will require solutions that are able to meet the increasing demands on efficiency and performance.”
Why is that I wonder?
