LONDON (Alliance News) - Predator Oil & Gas Holdings PLC on Tuesday said it has been awarded and has formally signed an eight-year Guercif petroleum licence in Morocco.
The Guercif petroleum agreement & association contract has been signed with the Moroccan Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines, acting on the behalf of the Moroccan state.
Predator provided a USD1.5 million bank guarantee, which is refundable on the completion of the minimum work programme set out in the terms of the licence.
Predator is taking a number of steps to begin drilling "as early as is practicable in 2019", as drilling can be conducted all year in that region of Morocco.
The licence is exclusive and comprises the Guercif permits one through four, which lie northwest of the Tendrara gas project and east of the producing gas fields of the Gharb Basin.
Predator will operate Guercif through its wholly owned Predator Gas Ventures Ltd subsidiary, with a 75% equity interest and ONHYM interest of 25%. ONHYM also has the right to "back-in" for as much as 25% equity by paying its share of forward costs.
Predator Chief Executive Paul Griffiths said: "Predator management is delighted to be working again with our excellent partner ONHYM to explore for gas in Morocco. We are convinced that the opportunity to potentially find gas in Guercif is so attractive that it warrants accelerating drilling activity to test the pre-drill model."

Gas in Tendrara: Sound Energy wants to secure the local sale of its production
Sound Energy has issued a statement to announce further talks with the Moroccan state on the gas sales agreement to be produced in Tendrara.
The English exploration company is discussing with the National Office of Electricity and Water (ONEE) and the Minister of Energy and Mines, according to the statement . It states that the Minister has confirmed its intention that the gas sales agreement will cover all the gas to be produced from the concession recently awarded to Tendrara.

"The deal is a crucial next step that Sound Energy and its partners need before making a final investment decision on development," the company said.

As a reminder, the latter had previously announced its attention to export its production via the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline.

"The development of Tendrara could offer Morocco a new source of strategic domestic gas supply, thus reducing its dependence on Algerian imports, as well as a new major gas transmission infrastructure in eastern Morocco, connected to the Maghreb Gas Pipeline. Europe, "says Sound Energy.

The successful retrieval of this gas sample confirms the presence of moveable hydrocarbons in the reservoir, and importantly is the first successful MDT gas test from the TAGI sandstone in the Tendrara licence (where testing has historically been hampered by the tight nature of the sandstone). So are they classing the well TE-10 reservoir as not tight and similar to TE-5 flow rate, and what about the pressure.

A total of 57 side wall core samples have been successfully cut and shipped out of Morocco and are now being analysed by ALS Ltd in the UK. Preliminary analyses of a sample subset show permeabilities within the range observed in the TE-5 Horst area.

Based on the Company's current assessment of the reservoir section, a stimulated flow rate of approximately 1.5 mmscf/d to 2mmscf/d, is likely to be commercial (as a tie-back development to the TE-5 Horst existing discovery). This commerciality threshold would be materially lower if the stratigraphic upside materialises as the TE-10 development would, in that case, be a standalone development

Sound Energy, the Moroccan focused upstream gas company, confirms continued positive discussions with Morocco's Office National de l'Electricité et de l'Eau Potable ("ONEE") and the Moroccan Minister of Energy in relation to a gas sales agreement ("GSA"), pursuant to which The Minister of Energy has confirmed his intention that the GSA covers all of the gas to be produced from the recently awarded Tendrara Production Concession, onshore Morocco. The GSA is a critical next step that Sound Energy and its partners require ahead of taking a Final Investment Decision on the development.

The Tendrara development has the potential to offer Morocco both a new strategic domestic gas supply source, thereby reducing its dependency on Algerian imports, and significant new gas transportation infrastructure in the East of Morocco connected to the Gazoduc Maghreb Europe pipeline

This production rate is not huge. To give an order of magnitude, know that it would barely be enough to power a single power station.

But Tendrara has a potential . Gas was found in two wells. And the seismic surveys have identified several geological "anomalies". For the TE-5 well, economically mineable reserves were at the lower end of the range. For TE-10, the reserves will be better approached after natural flow tests without stimulation. The results could be known next April.

Morocco remains an under-explored country . But the positive results of Tendrara will make it more attractive.

The partners of ONHYM that benefited from concessions should commit 2.4 billion dirhams of exploration expenditures during the triennium 2019-2021. 2D and 3D seismic surveys are planned as well as the drilling of about twenty wells.

The current exploration campaigns concern the onshore basins of Haha, Sidi Mokhtar and Foum Ognit as well as the offshore basins of Tarfaya, Mohammédia and Kenitra.

In the end, certain regions of Morocco contain geological characteristics of a great similarity with those of other oil countries. A major discovery is possible. But she is waiting.

Since the Talsint case, ONHYM and its Executive Director Amina Benkhadra are very cautious. Oil and gas exploration is a matter of patience, the steps are long and it's not just about finding hydrocarbons: they need to be economically exploitable.

Contacted by Médias24, an authorized source of ONHYM agreed to carry out with us a quick round up of the situation.

Economically exploitable discoveries took place in Gharb and Tendrara in 2018.

The operator in the Gharb is SDX Energy which is drilling gas to increase the production of existing small wells. Several discoveries, which we can describe as tiny, have been announced. Production will go to local industries: Super Cérame, CMCP and the future PSA plant.

Current production in this area is very low : 150,000 m3 per day. It will be increased thanks to the new discoveries. But the rise will not be significant.

It is in Tendrara that the novelty is really located. The operator Sound Energy has carried out 5 drillings since 2016. Two of them showed the existence of economically exploitable reserves.

In August, Morocco granted a production concession to Sound Energy over 133.5 km2. The operator has committed to 5 new wells as well as the reconstruction of existing wells TE-6 and TE-7. It will build a compressor station and pipeline of 120 km linking this station to the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline, with the aim of exporting part of the production.

Production will start in 2021 with a target of 1.7 million cubic meters / day over a minimum period of 10 years. That's about 6.2 billion cubic meters over ten years.
