OIL EXPLORATION: ONHYM SIGNS ITS FIRST CUSTOMER OF THE YEAR
Kiosque360. British Predator Gas has entered into a partnership with Onhym. The agreement includes drilling in the area "Guercif Onshore" near Tendrara.
The oil potential of Morocco's sedimentary basins is beginning to attract many oil exploration majors. The latest is the British Predator Gas Ventures Limited. In its edition of the day, L'Economiste reports that the company has just signed with the National Office of hydrocarbons and mines (Onhym) the first oil agreement of the year. The newspaper ensures that 12 more are coming. "The other firms we approach are CNPC, Europa Oil & Gas, SDX Energy, Hunt Oil, Total, Anadarko, Cairn Energy, Angel Rose, Shell, Woodside, ConocoPhillips, Chariot Oil & Gas," the paper said.
In the meantime, this first contract takes place on the "Guercif Onshore" zone, which adjoins Tendrara, whose gas potential is confirmed. The British group will, "during the initial period of the research permits, reprocess the 2D seismic data, the drilling of an exploration well and the geological and geophysical works", which operates in Africa for the first time.
The Economist says Predator Gas Ventures Limited is not the only company willing to invest in oil drilling in Morocco. Qatar Petroleum has entered into a farm-out agreement with ENI on the twelve licenses located in the Tarfaya Offshore Shallow area. The group took over 30% of the 75% owned by the Italian oil major ENI. The Onhym keeps him, the 25% he held.
The newspaper said the agency intends to continue, this year, actions promoting sedimentary basins with international oil companies. It is indeed a question of "attracting new partners to develop petroleum research", whose potential is well established. However, the huge investments that oil exploration requires do not yet allow Morocco to attract "the big oil companies". However, for the year 2019 alone, 9 wells are planned on the Rharb Occidental, Lalla Mimouna, Grand Tendrara, Haha Onshore and Tendrara concessions.
