The company Sound Energy plans to develop the Tendrara onshore gas field in Morocco from a mini liquefied natural gas production plan (micro LNG production plan), Energies Media learned in an official note from the operator.
The mini plan, revealed in Sound Energy’s business update to February 17, 2020, plans to start producing gas from a concession field - TE-5. The resource, which will be liquefied before being marketed, would be delivered to industrial consumers and distributors.
In its initial strategy, Sound Energy planned to resell all LNG produced in Tendrara to the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE). On this point, the company indicates that negotiations are continuing but that it is also exploring other options.
The initial strategy also included a gas treatment and compression station as well as a 120 km long gas pipeline, connected to the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline (which crosses Morocco to Spain, coming from Algeria). For the gas treatment plant, the company is looking for funding. With regard to the pipeline, Sound Energy now estimates that it will be able to be integrated into the mini plan at a later date, given the longer implementation times for this infrastructure.
Mohammed Seghiri, deputy chief executive of Sound Energy, said it was a "rapid development strategy" to begin to leverage Tendrara's resources while awaiting a comprehensive "timely" development plan.
According to the official, the company hopes to make a final investment decision on the mini plan before the end of the second quarter of 2020, for the first production of LNG in the year 2021.
The Tendrara concession is jointly developed with the Matarka concession, covering a total area of ??14,500 km², within the Grand Tendrara project, in the Oriental region.
