1) What do you expect Newmont to do with their NCM stake in Cascabel and who do you see as the most likely takers if they chose to offload them ?

2) How worried are you about the upcoming election in Ecuador and the possible impact it may have on our ability to move forward with the Cascabel project?

3) Nick Mather always stated he was against embarking on a JV with Cascabel as it would destroy any “takeover premium” …. Do you agree?

Santos added that another document would also be signed with the SolGold company imminently to enable it to start building its US$3bn Cascabel project in Imbabura province.

According to the pre-feasibility study, the Alpala deposit – the most important in the concession – hosts 9.9Mt of copper, 21.7Moz of gold and 92.2Moz of silver in measured and indicated resources.

The minister assured that an agreement had been reached with the company for it to pay royalties of up to 8%, according to output and the price of copper on the international market.

In the days following the signing of the agreement, a ministerial document will be issued to formalize the matter of the royalties.

The company will not have to pay royalties in advance as the companies EcuaCorriente and Lundin Gold did for their Mirador and Fruta del Norte mines, respectively.

The finance ministry must also provide an opinion of the fiscal risk of the deal on Cascabel.

According to Santos, construction of the underground mine would take four or five years and preparation of the site and other construction works could begin by the end of this year.

add …… the exploitation license would be amazing but without the term renewal it would mean very little. i guess they’re taking the approach of ticking the right boxes in the right prefer and as they said only releasing news that they are obliged to or news that is significant.

I agree with Add ( or one of his scenarios ) the release of another Q&A session would make no sense unless it’s all part of the big reveal and Scott is in a position to say way more this time . It could be to clarify our path moving forward and by default settle some long running arguments here.

The extraction licenses or an updated investment protection agreement could also be key. The new website is due to launch this week so maybe it’s all tied in somehow.

I’m certain some kind of a deal has been done but why he insists on putting firm dates on these releases without any control is beyond me ….. sigh
