Buybacks don’t guarantee what the divi pot is going to be just because less are in circulation. If the BOD have other ideas on how to spend the profits then they can easily allocate a smaller pot to the shareholders divis.

I can’t see why they couldn’t have reinstated 3p a share in 2021 to continue roughly where they left off or even just dropped back to 2.5p. It’s not as if they couldn’t have.

You are right if the revenue stream increases at the end of the year. But if the revenue stream stayed the same as the year before or even marginally more it doesn’t mean that the share divi has to increase. Dependant on how the BOD’s wish to carve up the profits will determine that factor.

There seems to be different sets of rules for state bailouts by the EU, especially for the Italian banks. The EU let Italian banks use precautionary recapitalisation as a fudge and also use an Italian insolvency option as another fudge.

Hit Lloyds hard by splitting out TSB but let the Italians off the hook. If Lloyds had TSB still we wouldn’t possibly be where we are now.

Perhaps if we stripped out a layer of pen pushing admins and then reduced the salaries of those middle/senior managers and senior execs to more realistic levels then perhaps there will be more money to fund the lower ranks of nurses and even recruit more front line staff.

At the time when DB schemes were being closed down people were being contracted back in again. If you were able to work about 10 years after then you made up the differential and would still qualify for the max new pension.
