Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, a senior member of the BNP standing committee and former minister, has said although the chief adviser’s comment on elections has given some reassurance to the nation, the party thinks that there needs to be a specific election roadmap.

Mosharraf, while addressing a Victory Day rally organized by the Comilla South BNP to mark Victory Day on Monday, mentioned Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus's statement earlier in the day that elections could be held late next year or in early 2026, after completing necessary reforms.

"The people are waiting for the announcement of election dates. We believe if the Election Commission is sincere, this process can be expedited. Over the past 15 and a half years, the fascist Hasina government deprived the people of their voting rights," the BNP leader said.

Now we have an indication as to the timeline of the interim government……it throws out the naysayers 4-6yr argument and the first half of 2025 argument,now GCM and it’s partner Power China can really get to work,we need funding for perhaps 12 months,we need a mining partner/partners and we need a presentation to the new government…in my opinion there is no other ready made resource to fuel these super critical power stations but the resources GCM has worked hard to prove up……the interim govt never had the time or the inclination to look at phulbari but the energy minister and the chairman of Bangladesh bank knew it was the only way out of a vast import deficit for coal…….

There are 2 main political parties BNP and Jamaat ,so far they have been very agreeable and I cannot see that altering much…….both political parties support own resources and multi fuel power supply……

It’s so crazy Fouzel is running around like a headless chicken promising to drill for gas and smiler is ramming home solar yet it now appears neither of the big energy directions will be started before the cuckoo govt gets kicked out!!……all this temporary govt arrangement is capable of doing is borrowing more money…..things will not get better imho they will get worse over the next 12 months that’s why Yunus is trying to shut down the media………

I suspect the main parties will press for earlier elections,as the article says if they can get together and set minimum necessary reforms and agree they could be sooner…….hoping the main parties keep up the pressure….at least this morning we know it’s going to get sorted within the next 12-14 months

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed hope on Saturday that a free, fair and neutral national election would be held soon reflecting the will of the people.

He said that people of the country would be able to elect their representatives through a free, fair, neutral and transparent election.

He made the comments after paying tributes to the martyred intelectuals at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial at Mirpur in the capital in the morning marking Martyred Intellectuals Day (December 14).

"The fascist forces were defeated on August 5, creating a new opportunity. We must make the best use of this opportunity to establish Bangladesh as a truly democratic, modern and egalitarian state," he said.

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi who was also present at that time responding to a remark made by an adviser regarding reforms, said, "It was an attempt to depoliticise the issue. All reforms in the world have been brought about by politicians."

"Whatever reforms take place in Britain, the United States or elsewhere in the world were done by politicians," he said.

He said that putting blame for reforms on politicians means someone's ignorance about history.

"Reform is a continuous process. Irregularities couldn't be removed from our society overnight. Cooperation from all is needed for carrying out reforms," he said.

He also said that the present government was in the middle of politicisation and depoliticiastion.

He said, "The nation would not accept the threats to our country's independence and sovereignty."

If GCM were to keep just 1% of the value of the overburden prior to reaching the first bucket of coal the company valued alone on overburden at 1% ownership would be 25x todays price…!!……..you can see why the binary bet here is very compelling!

this is my personal opinion but i think someone has had a word in her ear and told her to tone it down with the fossil fuel/nuclear tirade……there are multi billion dollar contracts tied up in fossil/ nuclear investments…..the cuckoo govt has already ****ed up cancelling solar and the icing on the cake was the non entity offshore gas bids………coal and nuclear are the only reliable sources of energy bangladesh has when the gas wells dry up and the sun doesn’t shine……

strange that power china always seem to be ahead of the game 😉
