The US can bring security and wealth to Greenland. Chinese and Russian ships regularly patrol their waters. The US already have 2 bases in Greenland since WW2. The US could just do deals with the mining ops already there whilst making Greenland secure from invasion. They don't have to own the island but imo it is inevitable that this will be the 51st State of America.

Trump did not add a comment in the post but the insinuation was clear given his recent statements about annexing Greenland from Denmark: Greenlandic residents want independence from Denmark, and there8fore, they might be open to other political or economic arrangements with the US
