I at least get some comfort that when they do fail, and we know from bitter experience marxism doesn't work, it usually results in a long period of very pro-enterprise goverments afterward. They regulate, fail, then we get a bonfire of "red tape".

If you look at the links you can see they can make use of the Companies Act to make enquiries about beneficial holders.
That's a power that permits companies from buidling a stake without declaring it.
There's a whole industry around analysis, proxy and engagement, so acquirers have to be very motivate to make a hidden positions. in this case why do that? It's a small business, with a small cap and almost 70% of the equity on the hands of 2 shareholders. That's a very unlikely target for a hostile approach.

They work on registers they manage and those they don't.
SGI's Registrar was IRG, which was Barclays Registrars. Later bought by Capita Registrars which was recently bought by Link.
They also provided a similar service looking through registers for beneficial holders.

Which begs the question, how have you worked it out then?
If you don't think it's possible for the likes of Equiniti ( with it's billion turnover) and Computershare ( who manage registers for 16,000 companies) how did you then?

How have you worked that out? If there's no RNS, Decleration, can you can possibly know? Isn't that just speculation. If you know of a way of identifying that's happened I'd be interesting in knowing.
Why would they just stop short...it wouldn't be because they didn't want the Company to know. That would fly in the face of the Company just asking the Registra. Afterall, they employ them to carry out that function and they offer all sorts of analysis of the register when they do.

2023. There's no rush.

Multiple way. Not just from Adminstration, but via financial instruments.
I'm interested in the long term position. I don't like being part of the "risk" money, so I'm hoping they get themselves sorted and there's something senior and secured on the table.

If there's nothing on the table then, and the staff haven't cleared of, then it might be worth making an offer....if you've got the deep pockets for the years of cash that need to be bailed in.

Implies a secondry discounted offer, the question is, if they could even get one away, what discount would you accept OFF the present price.

Why would it need to be hostile this side of fund raising, if they dont get fund raising done, you might just be able to buy it out of administation. Unless one of the existing shareholders get there first and pheonix it.

It's out there and resouce companies love them, or maybe have to use them when their balance sheets are distressed.

Classic Convertable Preffered Stock.
Gives you the security of debt, dilutes the existing ordinary holder and gives the opportunity of shorting against them, but knowing you are secure because of those debt qualities.
You can be an investor, lender and shorter all at once LOL.....and profit from which ever hat you put on for the trade.

My guess would be much later than that. There's only reason for before Christmas, retention of staff. Some will hang on for Christmas and then look for new jobs in the New Years.
For Lenders, waiting as long as possible, without damaging the business, makes the most sense. That way you can extricate every last ounce of profit from the deal.
Gven the global slow down the commodities markets are weakening, so will be the jons market for miners. So I think you might have a couple of months yet. Then the possibility of a last minute deal...or not.

I agree with you LB couple of years, 2023 woul be my guess, because you need a substantial rally yo make sense of that spread.
That's not going to happen on slightly better results and that lack of liquity is going to be a problem for the imaginary "big buyers"
It maybe worth a few hundred quid punt for private investors, but the MM know that and hence the widening of the spread. They also know 90% of private investors get fed up before a recovery stock comes good.
As I've siad before, one to put in the bottom draw and check every year when the full audited results come out.

You'd have trouble buying AMPH. It's just declared a recommended takeover. The debt is very illiquid and not traded on any real basis.
VMUK. It's a speculative position for me. I hold both the equity and unsecured debt. Neither would I recomend as an overweight position. Financial debt has sky rocketed over the year. That might be a good reason to be wary. I'd be wary of the equity full stop. Although I do have an exposure to it and Metro.
If SXX gets it's retructure away I'd be happy to take small punt on it's shares. If it ever gets the whole mine up and running any future sensible debt offer once (it's profitable and cash flow positive) I'd look at. Otherwise, I prefer collectives like IT's and ETF's. Single stock I usually don't know unless I have some kind of hedge in place (for expample it's debt). There often just too difficult.
Not suprised the surge is over here. I expect it to retrench over the next few weeks.

At some point I'd like to unload my holding in SGI. As I've said, 2023 is the date I have in mind. Until then I'm sitting on my hands.
