I bought some of the M&G 6.25% 2068 this morning, doubt I'll see them be redeemed, but happy to take the 7% for the next 48 years.

Yes, it's not an easy read. I suppose that's point. I've never read War and Peace, but other Tolstoy works I have. I'm quite partial to a little Turgenev myself. If you haven't read him you should. He's a master of the short story. Dostoevsky might be a bit gloomy!
Overall I'm confident about the future, but there's pain at the moment. I'm several 000's of K down so far.
Survival, and income, is key to this game. Let's hope we all do. Survive for the inevitable upswing. This will put some people off for ever investing in stocks. Going forward I be still investing in listed equity, but also increasing my plans exposure to uncorrelated, unlisted debt, fixed income and unlisted assets. You know you'll experience loss, but it's some how less existentially distresing not seeing it evaporate by the second LOL I suppose the answer to that is not checking your portfolio all the time. There might be great sense in adopting that strategy at the moment. Till tomorrow.

One of the consequences on the "state of emergebcy" legislation is the impact on the protection of IP.
Could that be a long term consequence? Governments and Sovereign States degrade the protection afforded by IP on the grounds of national security?

I haven't sold anything so far, but I have slowed my re-investment of income down. I've excepted that I'm going to have losses, but I think they are just unavoidable at this point. If I converted to cash I'd be locking in loss and then converting capital to income. As it goes, many collective funds have decent cash reserves and can payout dividends for sometime. That might get me over the "hump".

"Understanding parent" you make it sound like they have some kind of Exceptionalism, They infact have their own partners and investors who'll be consideing if there's other vehicles that might make better short returns. There's a risk that if a lower risk business can provide an income and from here a 30% pop, why bother with smalll companies with a difficult past. That could destroy any "Exceptionalism".

Meanwhile, the CDC says the virus can live on paper products for a long time....I guess that means essentials might get ordered on line, but not essentials? How long do you isolate stuff coming through your letter box before touching it..

"I can see the FTSE testing the 4500 level in due course as there's going to be no let up on things and sooner or later some big high street names are going to go bust as well. Until they have a vaccine and it is produced in enough quantity to make a difference, this rout will continue. Just feel sorry for anyone buying in now and then being caught out by the next slump. You would certainly need to be brave to buy in before a weekend currently, anything could happen over that period. Weaker markets / countries will get hit even worse so there's still a lot to negatively hit the fan now. I suspect Italy is the tip of the iceberg and a full blown recession is now awaiting us. It's a time to hold cash as most shares will be trading lower by the end of the month."

I agree! Much rather take my risks in discounted blue chips that could offer a good total return.
I'm watching oil companies, debt, at the moment for my risk portfolio. I bought PMO1 and expect to add more during April. Very small position, I find having some money "in" makes me think about it more. Im hoping by June there's a resolution and consumption, rather than stock piling, begins. Survival is all bond holders really need.
China should be back working as normal, but depressed by the ROW impact, in early April. We've got to hope that the pandemic will peak sometime later in April and will start on a deep decline in numbers during May. When in May, may be the question
I do expect that to have an impact on London 2020. It may be "necessary" travel for exhibitors. but for the rest of the world...maybe not. The stock will be still available afterward, but at a discount.

A footholding is what I put in place to make sure a stock is in my portfolio. Rather than just a watchlist. I find having skin in the game makes me more attentive. The question now is it time to add moreor await on further turbulence?
I may wait on end of March/April's income. As my original plan. If CV does peak over the April period and we get an armistice, temporary or not, then it could be a compelling punt. Lesson as ever, never go full tilt. If we have any recovery between then and now, so be it. It's almost impossible to guess tops and bottoms.

Impressive press conference from the BofE. Interest rate cut is a side issue, the broader support for SME's much more important.

Hardly, BoE are giving a presntation now, evidence of a fall in consumer discretionary. This is hardly a product that you "need" to buy. As older people experience stress in the value of the income generating assets they hold I can't imagine they'll be heading off in a spending spree. Consumer non-discretionary might be a much better bet. You wont stop eating, heating, washing or caring for pets...you might be more careful about buying other stuff. It's most likely a temporary situation. Maybe spending with SGI will start again in one or two quarters, maybe next year.

It matures in late 2023, that's plenty of time for things to change. Until then I'll take a chance on the double digit yield.
None of us know anything for certain, but that's what the point of fixed income. Nothing is certian, but in an uncertain world it at least provides the possibility of capital return. I'll be looking to exand my small positon below 70.

Yeah, could be a different couple of months. Eurasia are commenting that the discussions will start again betweem Russia, Opec and Saudi's shortly and that it's likely to be a V shaped recovery. I'm less worried over corona virus over the medium term. The next couple of quarters will be difficult. In a few years time it'll be history. I have cash available that I'm expecting to feed in during April. When it comes to oil debt v equity, I'd prefer the debt. I managed to buy my foothold at 85 this morning, that gives me a decent YTM.Even if it get no futher than a footholding! I'l think about more if we go sub 70p. The few things I have bought this week have average double digit yields. It's too early to be looking for capital, income might be a worthwhile punt if it's diversified portfolio.

It's going to be a bumpy ride. I was happy to take a very small nibble and sit back and wait. I've invested less than the average daily movement of my portfolio (in normal markets), so it's not a great risk overall. I note they are a fraction down on my 88 (dirty price, costs enclosed). I'll be keeping an eye on New City's positon as they opened a position at the start of the year. I intend to hold to maturity. Any plans for your exit cash?
