Commissioned by Plutus PowerGen, a specialist energy generation business focusing on flexible energy solutions for the National Grid, Dyer & Butler has completed the first of Plutus PowerGen�s Short Term Operating Reserve (STOR) stations. The project, handed over to Plutus PowerGen, allowed the site to become operational for last year�s high demand peak periods. Located in a new facility at the former Toshiba television factory in Plymouth, Dyer & Butler has undertaken the civil engineering work required to prepare the site for the installation of 50 diesel generators. This work has included access roads, concrete hard standing, site drainage, and the facility that houses the sites connectivity to the National Grid. This short term operating reserve has become one of National Grid�s essential tools for adding power to the grid when needed. During periods when reserve power is needed, or power stations have reduced output, National Grid calls upon STOR providers like Plutus PowerGen to supplement demand.

Due to be in full operation by late autumn of 2017 to meet the peak electricity demands of the winter, Dyer & Butler has commenced work on Plutus PowerGen�s Crumlin, Wales, Short Term Operating Reserve (STOR) facility. Dyer & Butler�s local Swansea team is undertaking site preparation which includes access roads, concrete hard standing, site drainage, and a building for the station connectivity equipment that allows integration with National Grid. Like other Plutus PowerGen facilities, the diesel generators used to supply flexible standby power can be fuelled by Biodiesel. Dyer & Butler is currently constructing the civils infrastructure on three new sites for Plutus in South Wales, Ipswich, and Stowmarket. These sites are due to be completed later this year in readiness to start feeding into the grid by Christmas.
