Automating commercial fuel cell manufacture for AFC Energy

Fuel cells are one of the most promising new forms of energy generation. The technology is clean, quiet and efficient but the hundreds of layers in a commercial-scale fuel cell stack and the number of stacks needed to generate sufficient power make it almost impossible to manually assemble them at speed. Cambridgeshire-based GB Innomech (Innomech) has designed and recently completed a novel automated manufacturing system that AFC Energy will use to assemble five stacks per day.
The new assembly equipment has been developed for AFC Energy as part of its EU-backed Power Up consortium to develop and install industrial clean energy generation plants, based on alkaline fuel cells and using hydrogen as a fuel source. The first plant is being built at an Air Products industrial gas processing plant at Stade, northern Germany and comprises two AFC Energy KORE systems. Each system contains 24 fuel cell cartridges generating in total around 250 kW at full power and the first system is due to be installed this year.

I though AFC built a robot to assemble and disassemble stacks, they definitely made one for doing something

AFC have now confirmed there is a manufacturing agreement with Advanced plastics, and didn’t we some time ago place a large electrode order with De Nora ?

Having looked at the advanced plastics website I would not dismiss them based on the fact they work out of an industrial unit in Hull. I have previously worked for a manufacturing company out of an industrial unit who produced a world first of their product which is on display in the science museum. We have world class manufacturing in the uk and these people to me look very high calibre, we just need orders for them to make !

I would say unlikely but in any case, I’d be quite happy if that were the case, a rise in share price for whatever reason !

What does AFC regard the meaning of 'short term' as ? Weeks, months, years or decades ? who knows ?

I agree on this point that it's good news we finally have 2 year longevity, this was originally the PLACE objective and i think the point at which most PI's thought we had crossed the line from development to commercial but clearly not. We hear a statement such as we are working with a supplier to containerise the system which leads us to believe this is the final step and once this is done we have a commercial product, but i can bet that once this is done there will be another step we are working on, it's never ending.

Yeah you’re right RiskyBusiness, it really doesn’t matter that our CEO treats PI’s with utter contempt and feels he can spout whatever rubbish he likes. I’d like to know at what point did AFC know that Southern Oil decided to redesign their plant putting the AFC system on hold, it just doesn’t sound right to me especially considering all the other BS that has since been spouted.

So today the 6m shares at 3p have been issued, costing us £200k for the arrangement fee, then tomorrow the £800k is issued, AFC better have some good news soon or it'll be game over.

AFC’s business model is centred around free hydrogen, if the cost of hydrogen starts to rise significantly what are the implications?

Bumble, you state this as fact - If that happens the value of hydrogen is going to rise considerably Do you know this for certain ? There was a poster who also stated a fact the uncertainty around funding was holding the share price back.

There's only one question that needs to be asked, how long before we are profitable ?
