Aether,
im definately no boffin, best qualification i have is a HND in Building Services Engineering from the early 1990's, so im well out of touch with further education as i have no great career aspirations personally, and would always choose experience over paperwork. I would however listen to the tutors and take their guidance as, although they have vested interests and want the next years students fees, their fingers would be more on the pulse id like to think.
My current job is very technical and detailed, in essence i protect public health and help to prosecute business who break legislation, and im dreading going back to work, having had my fair share of chemotherapy recently with more to come. I can fully sympathise and understand what chemo brain is like and understand your nervousness about it affecting your abilities - i know it affects mine, and your right to avoid stress (humour is my salvation as i can laugh at anything). But do remember your still you mate and things will improve.
My advice, if at all possible but depends on your own circumstances, would be to take your time with any decisions, no rushing if you dont need too, and dont get chasing a tough job or studies if you dont actually need to to fund your lifestyle, take things easier if you can till you recover your strengths over time. Make your lifestyle fit in with you not your life fit in with your lifestyle.
Contacting the med school to get the facts before making a choice about binning the degree is a great idea, id definately do that, and as you have already done a couple of years for the HNc in electrical engineering id treat that as a safety net with potential in the meantime, especially as you enjoy it and find it straight forward, but keep it up.
Good luck with what you decide to do, but as i say take your time making the right decision for you.
