The yanks dont buy much from saudi etc specifically, they just sell em military equipment which trump will likely reduce leaving them open to revels attack from the iranian backed nutters. Of course the rub is that the saudis/russians dont reduce their production and the ret of the world ends up with it lowering its prices.

Ken, certainly been topsy turvy, rising on poor news then falling on good sometimes, bonkers.
My simplistic nature is looking at a theory at the moment with oil. Saudi and Russia are pumping like mad and the worlds storage (max 1.2billion barrels) is fast filling up. Consequently everybody is predicting a further huge crude sp fall as the storage gets full.
Now me, flipping the situation over see's an opportunity to teach the Saudis and Russia a bloody good lesson for causing world recession when this happens. Simply stop buying ALL of the Saudi Russian oil once those tanks hit full of the cheap stuff.. The world will likely still be running slowly with reduced demand, so emptying those tanks will take quite some time. Force the fecking Saudis and Russians to turn off their pumps completely by topping those storage tanks up from other suppliers as best as possible to lengthen the time nobody buys their crude and draw down the storage to low levels at the slowest rates possible..
That will royally feck up the saudi/russian income and budgets, after earning minimal monies now from low prices then none from no customers afterwards. Trump can ramp up his shalers to the max (supplying the world with his spare) and ride to his oil industries rescue on a big white horse just in time for the election.
Bit simple but you get the idea im sure.

about planned maintenance for aircraft. Know more about nuclear physics than that myself, but am thinking that while the planes are down is it not worth bringing essential maintenance spending forwards and doing a bit of this in advance, so that when this is all over the planes are back in the skies with less being serviced etc. Obviously a judgement call regarding cash retention but it may make some sense depending on timings.

luddite, your quite right there, agree fully. Buffett has the 'chinese' mentality approach. Slowly slowly take over and retain to make more. Rather than the foolish general western approach of 'quick, sell it and make a dollar' leaving one exposed everafter. We need to change after this.

I hope we as a country, now support all the 'little' businesses that are helping out with the virus thing. The little businesses now making the NHS gowns etc that are filling the gap left in our ability to buy in cheap (and dear) foreign products. Doing so long term will be a big boost to these UK companies as we recover from the effects of the virus, and it will remove our dependancy on others in times of need. A good opportunity to grow our country for a change and quite timely with the Brexit vote (however you voted).
As for chinese crap, im involved in water quality, and often get sent in to investigate complaints where quality is suspected or a sample has failed. The first place i look in a house is the washing machine/dishwasher/taps. The reason for this is people use cheap nasty chinese cr@p connecting pipes, rather than tested versions that cost 3 or 4 times more, £1 or £4. The Shi7 from China is made from recycled tyres and other waste plastic, rather than virgin non leaching materials, and gives off tastes and odours to the water. People think they are getting a bargain when they buy the cheap ones, in reality all your getting is a chemical dosing. Time for a big change I think in a lot of areas.

CHD, i did last night, looks good on the face of it but unfortunately they are not taking new applicants at the moment - even tho they charge £25 to new customers in a set up fee.

The only thing i dont like is the £2 fee for each time you set a buy/sell order/stop loss, when its not actioned. If its actioned they remove the cost from the £5 dealing fee, but quite often theres a need to set these things for safety. If trading a lot it will soon add up. I'll be staying with HL for that reason, although it costs me more upfront at least i know what im paying.

i may too, dont trade that often but with HL i pay £11.95 a go i think, so that soon adds up. Three BP shares a go at the moment :)

Scoop, im not a fan of the local favs mate, much prefer a pucka pie or a greggs roll compared to the local superheated swede pasties, cant take the Brummie out of me Im afraid. As for a decent kebab well none of them down here either.
