Agree with you jds about Fender. He has his own system which has worked well most of the time. He did articulate his thinking and he does that often. No one could have forecast the quick reversal of the share’s fortunes yesterday. With the current management, MKS coukd be making £1 billion in profits within 3 years. It is this cash generating profitable business which is keeping the share where it is despite the potential cyber costs.

Not sure to what extent individuals customers can prove losses which is what they will have to do to bring a successful lawsuit against Marks & Spencers. Any financial loss by data being used to taking out fraudulent loans will be dealt with by the lending organisations directly with the affected customers. I thought that M & S had put out a statement saying that personal details has not been shared. Possibly an opportunist firm of solicitors who will mailshot thousands of customers enticing them to join the action. Most customers are very loyal to the M &S brand so probably only a handful of clients will reply. Anyway, it could take years for this to come to court

I understand your dilemma but that is a decision which you will have to make yourself. I think the consensus is that the full year’s accounts will be very good. It is the overhang from the cyber attack and the likely impact on the current year’s profits which is impossible to determine at this stage. There is talk of insurance cover and inevitably there will be some insurance compensation. Whether it will cover the full amount of the losses is anyone’s guess.

I bought again on Monday at just under 350p on the basis that this is a well run business with increasing profits. Good luck with whatever you decide.,

It is nearly three weeks since shareholders were informed of the cyber incident. An update followed a few days later but since then, no further information has been provided. There has been talk of insurance cover but nothing confirmed. Since then the share price has drifted form £3.96 to £3.43 today. Full year results due to be announced on 21 May but however good they may be, the announcement will be overshadowed by the cyber attack and the costs involved to date,, not to mention need to introduce better online security.

I would have thought a company like M&S would have wanted to update customers, shareholders & staff alike who must be very disappointed in the way that this incident has been managed. The almost daily drift in the share price will only continue without an announcement as fear spreads about how serious the incident has been, in the absence of any assurances from the company

Congratulations on your purchases Carrington. I was tempted to buy myself at 375p but as we saw a few weeks ago following the Asda profits warning, the markets tend to really punish bad news and I wasn’t confident that the share price drift wouldn’t carry over to Monday.

Spoke to a manager at M&S this morning who told me test everything was upm& running normally. There was clear evidence that card payments were being processed at the tills

I sold the bulk of my holding 6 months ago but retain a small holding. The reason I sold is simply that the directors just do not want to be held to account at AGM’s of Investor Meetings.

They simply fob off shareholders with unsubstantiated rubbish. Parker should have gone long ago. This BB has some great contributors who really deserve better from the BOD.

Tesco & Sainsbury’s are down over 7% today - possibly due to increased competition from Asda as Allan Leighton overhauls the business. I think it has been known for a while that Asda has been losing market share.

Drop today probably due to the Asda profit warning issued a couple of hours ago. Tesco & Sainsbury’s share prices being similarly affected by the news. Potentially good buying opportunity ahead.

1ontheup, I was a shareholder in MKS many years ago but sold all my shares until August 2021, when I visited the Hedge End store near Southampton. I was so impressed with the layout of this very large site that I purchased some shares again and held them until end of December 2021. I repurchased my holding in August 2023 as the share seems to do well in the run up to Christmas. I still have that holding and will look to add on any weakness. Management is excellent and footfall appears to be on the up with increasing numbers of new customers using Marks. Someone mentioned selling just before/after Xmas results are announced. That seems to be a sound policy.

Fender: why don’t you use a leveraged trade such as a CFD to reduce your buying costs. Perhaps you have used then before and been burnt. Nevertheless a contrarian view is always worth listening to. I personally don’t hold out a lot of hope for the state of our economy by the time the next election is due so your late December views could well be correct. All I would say is that some of the M&S stores I visit are very busy and I believe that the FY results will be surprisingly good. All the best

Simonthezealot : just shows how contradictory your approach to this share is. If you are correct about the 1.55p assumption, why ever would you not only buy shares at around 1.70p but then go and announce it on this BB.

Fender, I feel sure that everyone who read my message probably accepts the wider message I was seeking to convey.

Kat, If you are so great at knowing what a company should or should not be doing, why aren’t you on the board of directors of a substantial company offering your brilliant strategies to them rather than trying to make (or lose) a few quid trading this share - and still getting it wrong

Billy, you are both as bad as each other other. This BB used to be so good, informative and supportive of other posters. It’s is like a kindergarten playground now with all the insults. I used to enjoy reading the post from new and old investors. Not any longer
