good point - not just currency risks but it would expose them to the dollar - which is destined to devalue still further. Of course a devaluation of the dollar would affect SIT as well, but as you say it would also affect non US domiciled share holders.
wouldn't be surprised to see this return to 440 before starting another assault on a new height. Seems to be a swing trader's favourite. All in my opinion of course, it might swing back now and go into a new trading range. Personally I am waiting for a further drop before buying in again.
10x times the normal buying volume today. See the ADVFN thread for an account of the share overhang which has been keeping a lid on sp growth this year for SVS. With £7m shares traded so far today, it looks like the overhang is either cleared or about to be.
Hi Chan, sorry I missed this one completely though am familiar with and have eaten at their restaurants a few times (I think the Real Greek on the south bank sucks) - but what a location! JCM analysis consensus is four out of four analysts saying Buy. It's risen a lot already and P/E is a little high, but they are expanding. I may take some small profit on some sleeper stocks and buy in. What's your target now?
888 also down 2.6% today. So seems like weakness in the sector today. For me, LNG is also a long term buy and hold, PRTY - well I might try and get out of that sooner rather than later.
Steady I agree - HMV's future is decidedly doubtful. There is nothing safe about high street retailing of CD's and DVD's. IP TV is the next technology that will revolutionise viewing habits. Napster and Itunes and clones will wipe out CD buying within 10 years. IP TV, pay per view, streaming and paid-for downloading will wipe out DVD sales within 20. Safe havens - go for a precious metal/natural resources fund - even if the US goes belly up, gold, silver and nickel will mostly keep their value.
might explain today's rise:- RESEARCH ALERT-Needham starts Antisoma with a buy rating 110 words 30 April 2007 14:02 Reuters News English (c) 2007 Reuters Limited April 30 (Reuters) - Needham & Co. started coverage of British biotach firm Antisoma Plc with a "buy" rating and 82 pence price target. The brokerage cited the $890 million collaboration with Switzerland's Novartis for its lead product, AS1404, which is being tested in lung cancer with Phase II completed, as well as prostate and ovarian cancer where Phase II is underway. Needham said Antisoma has six product candidates that target a wide range of tumors with different mechanism of actions. (Reporting by Ratul Ray Chaudhuri in Bangalore)
I think the sp is neither too high or too low now for a punt. it's safe to back into the water... Post results profit taking now over, and price on the rise.
figures look solid. I am becoming very bullish on mining stocks. Especially after checking out Peter Schiff and his views:- http://www.europac.net DOW is overpriced against gold to a level previously only seen before the Wall Street Crash preceding the Great Depression. Get out of anything relating to the US (if you haven't already) and get into metals and emerging markets. Also looking at Uranium right now - Geiger Counter, URA
(still holding too... might be a slow burner but they are in profit, pay a dividend and are now running a tighter ship. The one thing to watch is how much fallout the inconsistencies in working practices will have with new and existing clients: has their customer base lost faith in SMC?)
Yeah I mailed them to request a ban for repeated flaming. Thought he was you for a time - not now.
hehe good idea mate :)
nice timing Davius - as always!
Thanks Davius - can't quite understand the extent of the protracted sell-off on this stock... hmmm got the timing all wrong it seems if it goes sub 50 i'll buy more slices, for now i'll have to soldier on...
great defensive play this. Have held for years. Now amazing figures released:- LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Reckitt Benckiser PLC said its first-quarter pretax profit rose 58 pct to 236 mln stg on actual exchange basis and raised its earnings and revenue targets for 2007. The maker of household cleaning goods said net profit was 179 mln stg, up 63 pct on actual exchange basis and 36 pct on constant exchange basis. Its total net revenues rose 8 pct to 1.26 bln stg, and underlying net revenues rose went up to 1.12 bln stg from 1.09 bln stg. 'Reckitt Benckiser had an excellent first quarter with very good growth on both the base business (10 pct like-for-like) and the BHI business acquired in early 2006,' chief executive Bart Becht said. Growth has come across all geographies and all categories, supported by further increases in marketing investment, Becht added. It said BHI synergies contributed around 13 mln stg additional profit and net revenues of 139 mln stg in the quarter. Based on these strong results and momentum, it raised its 2007 net income growth forecast from low double digits to mid teens percentage and net revenue growth from at least 6 pct to between 7 pct and 8 pct at constant exchange.
thanks knight - just wondering if the MMs are playing a dastardly game with me or not... am overweight on asm.
Just wondering if I could ask you a favour? Could you let me know what the buy/sell ratio is on this share today (recently)... From looking at the trades, can't help feeling that there are more big buys than big sells, yet the sp continues to fade....
all i can find out is this bit of head hunting in the forex business:- http://www.tmcnet.com/usubmit/2007/04/21/2538540.htm and this jv in the foreign mortage business:- http://www.mortgagestrategy.co.uk/cgi-bin/item.cgi?id=139826&d=337&h=24&f=254
brokers have to make money too: So I guess, judging by the relative volumes of trading in PRTY versus LNG, a broker stands to make more money from commenting on PRTY than LNG?
when a share goes up we regret not buying more, when a share goes down, we ask ourselves why did we buy so many? I've got my fingers crossed for you glue, and jonty (assuming he's still in).
