I remember being told it was £11000 cost to the NHS for ITU bed per day many years ago and that was without the cost of medicines, fluids, etc. I dread to think what it is now.

The news on mass role out of vaccines to help combat the virus is wonderful news and hopefully a step towards us regaining some normality in our lives. We have been mass vaccinating against seasonal flu viruses for many years and yet there are a number who catch it and can suffer serious health complications because of it. There are a number of reasons be it poor uptake, mutation or underlaying health. The Covid vaccination program will be no different in my mind. Hopefully the vast majority will be helped and continue with there lives as normal. For those who sadly don't for what ever reason treatments will be required and that's where SNG will benefit and hopefully those patients too. As many have said before vaccination and treatments go hand in hand. Its no use having one string in your bow!

I am not totally sure of the inclusion/exclusion criteria or why the GP would need to provide details other than medical history, allergies or current medications which could be in a simple format available to all health care professionals with the patients permission I would have thought.

Prosseco As a crew we were basing it on a case by case criteria. O2 saturations being a an important one and the requirement for O2 intervention/treatment. People being able to cope eg feed and stay hydrated. Family, carer support. And sadly whether there would be a benefit on going to hospital for treatment over there current age or co morbidities with the whole system being under such pressure.

Tarka I will bring it up with my clinical lead. I feel we could be pushing trials. I just need to make sure we are able to do so. I can't contact sng until tomorrow as they are only week day and not bank holidays. Getting patients to sign up for trials can be difficult as many are elderly and can be find the process difficult. If the information was widely pushed out to health care workers to instigate on behalf of their patients and then sng pursue that referral I feel that take up would be very high.

Artdralor I was wondering this myself. I am going to email Synairgen today and ask and also the head of my particular service.

Artdralor No the SNG trial is not known amongst my colleagues. I feel Ambulance services would be a very good place to start pushing this information out to as along with primary care we are the first to see Covid patient presentations. Ambulance services are quite quick to adapt to new treatments and trials. If you had a patient that met the criteria I wonder if a central trial number could be used and somebody dispatched to administer it and data recorded. I am sure it would be possible.

Okleaf We were the same. Whole families with Covid. Its hard weighing up who you take in and who you leave as the hospitals are under such pressure and the treatment options are so limited.

I work for the Ambulance service and we have had a busy week end with a large number of Covid presentations. Most have been left at home to manage the illness the best they can. I wonder how many would have benefitted or been eligible for the trial. A fair few I feel. We are reliant on the out of hours service during this period which is in all fairness a sticky plaster. I hope there can be a real push to get these treatments into the community when the NHS is up and running after the holiday period. For the people who have caught or are going to catch Covid during this time the Vaccine is too late!

I am sure someone may have said this but if/when successful P3 then it would be in someones interest to launch a bid sooner rather than later.

As Covid seems to produce an over reaction of the immune system in some patients I had wondered if there would be risks of people who suffered from Anaphylactic reactions. Also if somebody who had had the virus and recovered then went on to have an anaphylactic reaction to the the vaccine as a result of the bodies response to further direct exposure.

SNewby that has been my concern to as a PI. I wonder if the end goal of achieving scientific results and realising the dream will come above PI shareholder value. It must be the Medical Science that drives him forward above the value of money. Although obviously you need money to achieve the Science. I suppose Eli deal or not with Mint he now has that. To go down in history as finding a cure for an illness and the recognition is worth far more to a Scientist than pounds and pence. All my opinion of course because I obviously can not know what anyone at Hemo thinks.
