Perenco’s production in Cameroon is 90,000 boepd, with 50% being oil and the remaining 50% being gas. Over the past five years, the platform has delivered more than 16 million barrels of oil in Cameroon, which Perenco entered in 1993 with the acquisition of the Moudi concession, in association with Société Nationale des Hydrocarbures.

Perenco began the development of the Sanaga gas field in 2013 to supply the KPDC power plant, which provides 30% of the country’s electricity. A few years later, the firm initiated a liquefied natural gas (LNG) development project with the FLNG Hilli Episeyo, said to be the first floating liquefaction plant in the world.

Total has announced the sale of its 75.8% equity in Total E&P Cameroon to Perenco. We value the transferred stake at US$284 million. No consideration has been released. Independent Anglo-French hydrocarbon producer Perenco has started production at the South Kole Marine oil project located 50km off the coast of Cameroon. 

The project is now producing approximately 3,800 barrels of oil per day. The milestone follows an eight-month work program which required well architecture, pipelay and platforms to be installed.

The program effectively proved the commercial viability of the marginal field. Located in depths of between 30 and 50m, the field was initially discovered by another operator in the 1980s, and forms part of Perenco’s strategic agenda to optimize its current assets in the country.
