The assets are only equipment probably long amortised and a few other items. If the judges etc play hardball then BHP will withdraw and leave the mine share to rot or sell it to Vale. It is not corporate critical to continue mining from BHP's point of view. They are doing their best to alleviate the situation and get the community back to work and prosperity. These things happen in the mining world. The Brazilian judges just want backhanders. Its accepted second nature to them. It will be all sorted at a much higher political level than the judges. The most pathetic damage to the share price is being done by Paul Kiernan, the WSJ hacker, who is trying to make a name for himself - by being an outright BLT bear and champion of the ANTI Big Mining community. I would like to see some professional positive constructive journalism from him? Half the dividend? That's fine, as it will still be an excellent return from a company that has real assets, rather than dot com ones. They will also reinstate the present dividend one day, to maintain their policy of dividend growth.

In these markets I would cry otherwise. Actually, I am crying. Thank God I no longer do CFDs.....

If there is toxic waste that means crippling compensation to BLT. All someone has to do is tip a barrel of arsenic into the river and BLT is buggered. I am long heavily this stock but I don't believe that BLT would lie. Counter productive.Those people(Brazilian Officials) would lie through their teeth if they thought there was big money in it. An acceptable independent assessment is need immediately. If BLT are lying, then I am an idiot for backing such a company. The shorting hedge funds frenzy feed off this sort of situation. Because … 1. All finance is now in place. The company is now financially sound. 2. The order book is healthy. Any new business is a bonus. 3. The new chairman John Kennedy has turned the company completely around. A highly rated man in the "oil bidness'. 4. Kennedy is known for understating success and does not blow the company's trumpet. He just gets on with it quietly. 5. Kennedy is also known for selling companies when they are successful. This case won't surprise me here.. 6. All there bad news has now been dealt with so I anticipate growth.
