According to previous posts on here there is no point in buying to bag the dividend then sell.
The share price say 82 will go down 40 if a dividend of 40 is paid.
I am more concerned about the latest scandal in U.S. check the papers .
I thought that the sale was finalised, can this latest news regarding school buses in U.S change things ?.
Thank's pycheck So that's where you get your wisdom L.O.L.. " When dividends are paid its common for share prices to fall because the company uses its own profits to pay them"
"Common" that is exactly my point.
I have had FG shares many years in fact from day one . I remember receiving a dividend twice a year and to the best of my knowledge, memory the share price did rise slightly before the dividend was paid then drop afterwards and then return to normal twelve month average, nothing more than a blip .
I do not want the dividend and intend to re-invest any payment I receive taking advantage of any temporary drop.
Pyecheck I would be grateful for any further advice you can offer. L.O.L.
What is the point of paying a dividend ?
If the S.p 82p drops by 30p to pay a 30p dividend How does that reward shareholders. If they are skint they may as well sell 28% of there stock and stay in control.
The discussion is getting a bit out of context. Please read back to the original question.
The market will respond and the S.P. will possibly drop after the divi is paid .
But the company does not pay a dividend by selling stock or reducing the value of shares.
We will soon find out, I am not saying that there will not be a market reaction, I know that there will. Just that the S.P. is not lowered to pay the dividend . in my opinion.
Gasman T the best of my knowledge at the moment FG shares are buy one get 30p free possibly and the shares are valued at 82. After the dividend has been paid they will just be buy one and the dividend will not be included therefor not as attractive to the market and demand may fall and with that the S.P. will possibly fall. I am in at 100 ish. If the dividend is 30p my average would be 70p.
Hopefully the dividend will be more than 30p but I am in it for the long run and paying off debt would suit me just the same. They just need to get on with it.
No sorry the dividend does not get taken off the S.P.
How would that be a reward to share holders.
To the best of my knowledge When the 30 p special dividend is paid the S.P. does not go down to pay for it. The S.P. is controlled by the market and could dip because the value will be considered less without the special dividend on its way.
The S.P. can be changed, re valued but not to pay for a dividend.
Well said Coiga I could not have put it better myself.
Well done B.O.D. and the team.
Sold for a much better price than we all expected
Uk government backing great at the moment, not looking rose'y but holding our own at the moment. in my opinion the only way is up.
81.85 and that's with a 30p or more special one off dividend on its way.
The enemy within will never be happy, they would prefer short term disruption to long term security. Obvious to me what the game is. Lets give our support to U.K. transport and all the excellent staff they have.
It is very easy to point out all the mistakes the B.O.D. make but they are damned if they do and damned if they don't . We all wanted the rail franchise's where do you stop trying, give up to easy or try to hard ( spend a fortune doing so ). Personally I am buying again now and after divi
Hope Pychek is correct and that there is not a cut of date for the special dividend. Good luck all
Thank's for that, what an up-beat post.
I do not understand all the doom and gloom on here.
Ex dividend (Excludes any due dividend, a share price that means you will not receive the dividend on this share)
Ex dividend date ( the date at witch the share will exclude due dividend from ). Can be a date set in the future or in the case of a special dividend a date set by the B.O.D. and backdated.
This is a special dividend one off due to U.S. sales. Do not expect 30p per share every year.
I am not sure if the same rules apply as do to normal dividends. I do not think they do.
First group seem to want to start paying an annual dividend again ( seems they now want to run a company that makes a profit ).
The highs and lows of this share may soon be stretched even further, I think 30p dividend is right ,it may end up being higher but paying more has got to be detrimental to other areas of the share out. In my opinion, one thing for sure within the next 12 to 18 months things will settle down I would like to think that pre covid value will return and that the company will be in a much better state. The company will have to adapt forced or by choice
Hopefully someone will educate me if I am wrong regarding the terms of a special dividend although ignorance or even arrogance is not welcome.
Stay nice this is one of the better sites at the moment lets keep it that way ( I f you think your post is awful do not post it).
In my opinion " DO NOT SELL" get the dividend then watch this value very carefully. Good luck

I think the ballance is just about right Debt, pension U.K. bus investment and special dividend .
I hope I am not missing anything here but the way I see it , The sale proceeds were better than expected, the proceeds are to be distributed exactly right, A long awaited special dividend ( I cannot wait to se the outcome of that) debt, pension, and investment in U.K. bus should reflect well on the share price
While pay and conditions are important rewarding investors by paying a dividend is essential.
I seem to remember a few years ago being shocked how much we pay train drivers compared to qualified engineers.
Paying a dividend will make this share more appealing to many more investors that require the income.
In my opinion I can only see this share price going one way both short term rapid and long term substantial growth. I have been wrong before.
They may just get there act together.
Regarding the sale well done board and team.. Good luck to all
If you look at previous posts on here I have been saying bargain at sub 100 and that I am buying at 80and below.
Where has all the rights issue talk come from.
Sorry did not read any where about the special 30p dividend being paid in this calendar year,
Do think I have read 2021 H2
I think the B.O.D. have got the ratio just about right paying off debt, U.K. bus and group pension and a special one off dividend, all of witch should reflect in the value of this stock.
Calm down everyone stay civil life is too short.
£3.3 BN sale
Will be used to pay down debts
£ 300 M borrowed from UK government ( covid support loans)
£336M for UK bus and group pension schemes .
And then
£365 M will be handed over to shareholders in a dividend before the end of this year.
I do not know if that means tax year ?
I do not know why this SP has not doubled .
Not carved in stone but nothing ever is . Until it lands in my hand I do not spend it.
But I am pretty sure (99 % ) the 30p per share is on its way. I.M.O.
I f it drops below 80 I am buying.
Big well done to the B.O.D. and team.
I cannot remember who it was that said " dividend don't make me laugh"
Hopefully the Qualifying date will not be a date that is pre 23 04 21 The date the possibility of a special dividend was announced.
Not trying to be a smart a--- but I have be caught out before, only trying to be help-full.
Shares in Centrica were all over the place after it was announced they were selling the A.A. a special dividend and a one off payment of £500 to AA members that caused a buying frenzy. But many missed out because of a backdated qualifying date.
Strong buy in my opinion, but I am holding I jumped in with both feet in January at about 75 otherwise I would be buying. Good luck

You do know why Stage coach seem to be leaving First group behind at the moment don't you.
I do read the brokers views but very rare for me to follow them.
It also makes a big difference which broker you read, a bit like the horse tipsters in the Sun , You would expect better results from such people.
First group need to make announcement soon.
I.M.O. Strong buy at sub 100
Made 100 today and that's without an update.
Has to be worth more even if only until sale in U.S.
Thankyou Davde Institutional investors, obvious now, Looked at abbreviation 11S regarding company share issues , Scary not even putting it up on here.
sterraman yes you are right nutters. I worked with some in Liverpool that should have been sectioned made south Yorkshire politicians look pretty normal so maybe count our blessings.
Thank god Corbin did not get in he would have still been considering lockdown number one. Please note I said Corbin and not Labour. I have friends in U.S that were giving me some about Boris and brexit, They went very quiet over there when Trump got in Ha Ha . Sorry enough of this babble.
100 that is good news at this point.
Article in Doncaster free press 1st April , yeah I know first of April.
( I do not know how to put it up or provide a link may -be somebody else does .
Basically South Yorkshire leaders are looking into putting buses back into public ownership, possibly through franchise.
Davde who are 11's ?
Davde you know what we say at First " no news is NORMAL" They like to keep us in the dark and feed us on -----------T
Still think there is good money in this at sub 100 lowered my average to 100 in mid january when they were 75 the biggest investment I have ever made and most nervous I have ever been regarding shares, but that is up over 20% you just cannot work this share out. Very often the opposite reaction to what you would expect.
Thank's Davde / Paul the man
Plenty left to sell then in USA
The reward I refer to is or was when I worked for First A card that you could load up with cash that gave you discounts in loads of stores , 5% at Asda and 10% off a wicks or B.Q kitchen was pretty good £6 for a day train ticket that's a day out for £6 kings Cross or Waverley and discounts at hotels and restaurants along with the B.A.Y.E. and S.A,Y.E schemes.
I was just letting "man in a bush" know what you loose when you retire. ( best move I have ever made)
